Food getting stuck?

Recommended Posts

I have read on here where folks get food stuck and that is what scares me, does it feel like your choking, or what is the feeling when you eat something too big or something that doesn't agree? TIA :help:

I have had something stuck in my band three different times. What an awfull feeling. The first time I did not know what was happening. The pain is similar to what I have been hearing from others is PB pain. The problem is that vomiting does not provide any relief. The second time it happened, I was on a deep sea fishing trip and it happened the first day of the three day trip. I was unable to eat or drink. Thank goodness, emptying my band worked to get the food released. I was left empty for a week and then refilled slowly. After each of these, I was afraid to eat.

I have PB'd once because something a little too big went around my tongue and got swallowed. I had only had three small bites, so I am assuming the band "knew" this piece was too big.

I felt instantly "full!" and began salivating, a lot. I knew something was wrong so I decided to watch the drain in my sink for awhile. Before long, I had a weak kind of gag/burp that brought up the offending tidbit, darn undercooked broccoli. It was so small and innocently gross. It went right down the drain no problem! What the heck!

I was lucky from reading the other stories. Look up StrawartS post on the PB from hell for more info.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
