Well, I hope this won't get me flamed, but.......yes, carbonated drinks are in general just not extremely good for you....BUT....anything in moderation is ok. I stopped drinking cokes about 2 years ago, not for my weight but just because they made me feel so sluggish...however...in the past year, I have had soda every once in a blue moon and have had no problems.

sometimes, i just crave a swig of 7 up or dr pepper or root beer. when i crave it, i taste it and then i'm done. i am the same with food. I actually don't have a lot of cravings since being banded, but if i am craving something, i allow myself to have it, at least a bite or two of it. then the craving goes away and I can move on with my life. I didn't have the surgery to stop eating all things unhealthy. I had the surgery to help me with Portion Control and to allow me to eat like a normal person. the band has done that for me. I can still go out with friends, eat what they eat in normal portions (but usually less), have a drink of wine, have a bit of soda or whatever.

i'm not saying don't eat healthy. you have to eat healthy, but don't beat yourself up if you have a soda or eat something that isn't the best choice for you. just don't do it everyday.

you really are gonna crash and burn if you go into this thinking that you will never have unhealthy foods again because believe me you will have unhealthy foods every once in a while. vacations, family gatherings, holidays. you can make better choices, but also realize that you are in this for the looooooong haul, and some days will be better than others.

that's my .02 and i'm sure others will disagree, but this is what has been working for me. good luck and keep us posted.

I was a faithful soda drinker before my band talkin all day everyday I had one but you know I dont even miss it now at all.. I even tried a rootbeer the other day it tasted horrid not to mention the carbination almost killed me.

Take this time to try new drinks like crystal light or teas and find something you like there are so many flavors out there you can surley find a new drink to love thats better for you and your band.

I was such a diet Pepsi/diet Dr pepper addict- like, give me a 2 liter and a straw, LOL. I gave it up cold turkey before surgery (January 2012). The headaches were awful, but I survived. I had 1 teeny SIP a few weeks ago, and it made me soooooooo uncomfortable!! Not worth it and didn't even taste good anymore. The 54 lbs I've lost so far are way worth giving up soda!!!!

Me too! I miss diet coke. I had my last one 2 days before surgery. I switched to tea and iced tea, but I still miss it!

doesn't it sound ridiculous that we would mourn the loss of food but it has been our "friend" for such a long time. I understand, I understand all too well!

I do have to say, I have new favorite foods now. I have tried really hard to find things to eat that make me happy. I know this will sound goofy but one of my big favs is spinach!! I eat it all the time, in eggs, salad, steamed with Protein. I buy the large box of it for $5.99 and never have to throw any away!!!

I still have a drool or 2 for Taco Bell but, I can eat it just different now. I love the Fresco tacos they have. I always used to have the cheesy stuff.

You will find new favorites to get excited about too!!! Good luck and welcome to this wonderful new life we get to live :- ))

It was harder for me to stop drinking diet coke than to quit smoking! I just finished day 3 of giving up diet soda and it has been a challenge. I drink crystal light and lots of Water. You can do this so just think positive! It amazes me how attached we get to things like drinks and food.< /p>

Please also consider the fact that carbonated beverages of any kind in your stomach post op will cause stomach bloating which could cause problems with your band placement. Better to be safe than sorry. ;)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
