I'm Banded!

Recommended Posts

Surgery went well today, and I have finally joined all of you who have been banded! I am so excited about the future and am hopeful I will be able to effectively manage my weight for the rest of my life!

My surgeon said he does place some fill in the band during surgery that stays there. His NP had told me that he doesn't, so he has either changed how he does the procedure or his NP is misinformed. He said most of his patients require about 6 fills, then added that some people and lucky and never need a fill.

I've been very nauseous after surgery, so I called and asked for medication, which has helped tremendously. I was told the nausea was probably from the anesthetic, so hopefully that will subside soon. I've been walking short distances frequently and am having only a little pain. Sore and stiff are probably the best adjectives to describe what I am feeling.

There was one shocking component with the pre-op routine this morning: The nurse wasn't required to weigh me. She used my weight from the pre-op visit I completed in March. :)

Thanks Deb, Julie, and momab50 for your responses. I am so happy to be joining the "banded club" and am hoping I can do as well as the three of you have done! Your weigh losses are encouraging!

I'm still nauseous today and am taking the medication for it, which helps a lot. Overall, though, I am feeling good, in fact better than I had anticipated, with only a little soreness in my stomach area and a scratchy throat.

I've been drinking Isopure, which requires a lot of effort because it tastes terrible to me right now! But I will get through it because it seems to be the easiest way to get my Protein in.

My cat is clearly miffed at me because I won't allow him in the room with me. I decided I can't risk him leaping onto my stomach, and he just doesn't get it. Normally, he rules the place. :)

Stay cool, Julie. I saw on the weather this morning that it's scorching in AZ.

Congratulations!

I have been out of town without a computer and spotty data service on my droid. I am so glad that you are now banded! I had to chuckle when I read about your cat. One of ours likes to climb on us and that was something I watched out for too. Luckily he never jumps directly on our stomach.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
