Question On Fills...

When you get a fill how long does it take for you to notice or for the saline to make it to your band?

The saline is in the band immediately. It can take a couple of weeks for the fill to take effect for some reason. I had a fill where they pulled out all the Fluid and put it back to check the amount. I could feel the bladder contract and then expand again as the syringe plunger was maneuvered. Odd sensation.

I've always noticed the restriction as soon as i was allowed to eat solids. Maybe 2-3 days. Just remember that with each fill you may have to re-learn your eating skills and hone them to work with your band. It can take several weeks to make that adjustment.

Thanks for the info. I just had my first fill Friday and didn't notice a thing. I am on liquids though till tomorrow and then mushy for three days then regular. I was wondering what to expect. Right now with just liquids I am hungry all the time since the liquids seem to pass right through. I did get my little timer though so now ready to learn to listen to my body...stop with satisfied and not full. A new learning experience. Good thing is...the fill part didn't hurt at all. That was another fear of mine but it was totally painless for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
