How Many Fills Did It Take You To Get To The "sweet Spot?"

Recommended Posts

So, I'm going for my first fill on June 14th, which cannot come soon enough. Right now I have nothing in my band. My doc states most people need at least 3 fills to start feeling restriction and he does them 1 month apart. I was curious as to why because obviously you get to some point of restriction when you are having a fill, then he says that will not last. He says the fat around the band lessens, thus making the band loose again, and this process is different for everyone. He showed me a pic of my band up close showing this. So my question to all is how many fills did you have before you hit the "sweet spot?"

Honestly???? You may not like my answer but I feel like I have finally reached my sweet spot this week and my surgery was in Feb 2011. I think I have had 13 fills and 2 unfills. My last fill was 3 weeks ago, I am at 7.55 in a 10 band. I just started feeling real restriction this past week. Everyone is different!

Honesty is just fine. No one said this was easy. But look at you- almost reached your goal anyway. Good for you!

From day 1 I have logged my intake and was really good about staying around 1000 calories a day. Once I hit my year anniversary it was hard just trying to stay under 1500 a day. This past couple of weeks I have been doing much better again.

I think I had 6 fills. It can take at least 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. I was about six months before I hit restriction.

I probably could have stoppped at 5 but went back for #6. I'm in the green zone and hope to stay there for a while.

It varies so much person to person. I have 6.25 in my band and seem to do fine. At my work there are 7 of us wit realize bands ans the amounts vary from 5cc to 10.5. Kinda crazy. Just be patient. The first few are frustrating. I think it was my third fill I really felt it.

glad to hear this thought I was doing something wrong, I had my Surgery March 21 2012, with 3 fills the first 2 did not make any difference at all, the 3rd i felt restriction for a few days after that back to square one, i can eat like a champ! example was able to eat2 pieces of chicken, little mashed potatoes and i cheated and had a small piece of cake (very bad) and a chicken strip all in one setting! so bad! anyone had fills back to back like this? how can i make sure its enough the next time around?

I'm pretty happy today as had first fill last wed and today ate at panera and had Soup and 1/2 sandwich which normally could devour pretty easily and felt plenty satisfied after half the sandwich. I feel I don't have much restriction but thinking that must be some. I was feeling like could eat same amount if I tried.

I had my 2nd fill yesterday and unless something changes I really feel restriction. I can drink fine, but when I try to eat something after a few bites I'm done. I can really feel it. I have just over 5cc in my band. So, hopefully it won't change anythime soon! Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
