Am I Eating Too Much?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/9/12 and I have been losing weight steadily and exercising but I still feel like I am eating too much. I mean I have lost about 18 pounds in the 3week period but I can still eat a good portion without feeling any restriction. I get my first fill on 6/12 so hopefully that will give me more restriction and produce more weight loss. What are your thoughts? Did anyone experience this?

I was banded on 5/19 and am still on the full liquid phase. I'm sticking exactly to the plan my doctor gave me. Part of his full liquid plan includes greek yogurt and non-fat pudding. Whenever I eat either of those I feel full for quite some time, BUT the last time I ate "real" food was May 13th.

Are you at the "mushies" stage yet? And if so, are you following a meal guideline? The menu/food list is developed the meet the nutritional requirements your body needs, so if you're following that then you shouldn't be eating too much.

Also - right after surgery you would have had some swelling that may have provided restriction, but until you get the fills and get to the green zone, you probably won't feel any restriction from what I've read/heard. My surgeon said to not plan on feeling like you're banded (besides the post-op discomfort) for the first few months, and in that time it's when your head needs to take control.

Almost everyone experiences what you are going through. It's called bandster hell and it will stalk you till you find restriction or satiety. Dr's usually don't add much saline to the band as this is your healing time.

Ya i'm going through the same thing.. I got banded Jan 24 of this year.. and I've lost 32 lbs. Felt a lot of restriction the first 6 weeks or so... but now virtually nothing. My doctor has had issues finding my port and I have to go to a surgeon to get the fill done. So it is discouraging for sure. But I have also heard the same... the first few months can feel like you dont have a band.. and they like to do the increments slowly to help prevent complications. But 2MuchFun, you're right... its just a diet right now until you find your sweet spot.... THAT I need to remind my self.. just because my bands not restricting.. doenst NOT mean I can eat what ever I want. NO reason why you cant be living the life style band diet :) Best of luck! And hang in there... I totaly know what you are going through :)

You did not mention how much you were eating, or how often. Without that information, it would be impossible to say if you are eating too much.

I hope that you met with a registered dietitian pre op to educate you about proper food choices and the amount you are allowed to have at each meal. For me, I was instructed that every meal was to have 3-4 oz of lean Protein and 2 oz of a Fiber carb. I am also supposed to be having either 2 cups of 1% milk, or SF and FF yogurt every day. I have not been able to meet my daily Calcium requirements through the dairy products, so I was told to increase my Calcium supplement.

Though every doctor approaches their practice a bit differently, if you have not been provided with clear guide lines to follow for your meal planning, it would be helpful to get some.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
