Where Is The Port?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

So Tuesday I go in for my fill. I am going to have it done at the office but my concern is they won't find the port. I got a lot of fat...LOL. I only assume it is located near the largest incision which is slowly fading. Now I know I am not a medical professional but when I push all around the area I cannot feel the port. I really want this fill it being my first one. I do have the Realize band and the ports are low profile compared to the Lapband.

Without an x-ray how are they going to do this fill?

lapband has a low profile port too. Are you getting a fill from the surgeon? Usually a surgeon places the port in the same local for everyone, so they will know the general location.

that was my concern tooo . i went for my first fill on monday the 21 and the dr could not find the middle of the port to fil it, so i have to go next week to have a Fluoroscopy band fill, that will show where the middle of the port is, the dr said it very rare that they cant find port , you will do Fine and if they cant worst come to worse you have to to have the same thing i'm having not a Big Deal

I didn't even think about this! I have yet to have the surgery or a fill... but I'm intrigued to see what happens. Keep us posted :)

Taking time off of work for an appt and then being told they cannot do it and to just make another appt a week later is a bit of a big deal....to me anyway.

They use a ultrasound machine to find the port!

Well atleast my doctor does and so far so good he has found it every time.. Since I have dropped weight now he make me bring my feet 6 inches off the table so he can locate it- well at least I think that's why or he is just getting a kick watching me struggle lol! Best of luck! I'm sure they will find it!

I too thought my band/port would be where the ( big ) scar is in the middle, I had felt around on my tummy many times also & never felt anything so I too was a little nervous about my 1st fill, but.... after a little poking & pushing around on my stomach my port is actually to the left of my belly button. I go for my 2nd fill on Wed. So we shall see how different. I feel afterwards. I have 5 in a 10 band.

My doc makes me put hands behind my head and partial lift my legs up straight out and hold that position till she finds it! Always does!! And my surgeon always uses lidocaine to numb before sticking that big needle in my tummy!!

So I got my fill today. Doc had no problem finding my port (just by feel) and it seems to be sitting just to the left of the big incision they made. Funny I still cannot feel it. LOL I guess that's why they go to medical school....Leave it to the pros I guess...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
