Why can't us that are banded drink right after we eat??

I think it's because the liquid will push the food through and you want it to stay there for a while for it to digest slowly and so your brain can better tell that you're full and will stay fuller longer.

The reason for the band is to create restriction for the food intake. Since we are supposed to have 1/2 -1 cup at a meal. Protein first, veggies 2nd and carbs 3rd. The drink would Water down the food and it will pass right throu the openning. Usually, when there is enough restriction a person could eat about 2 bites or teaspoons of food and be full. (that is me) The food slowly disolves and goes throu the little opening. Then it goes into the real stomach. When the food is eaten, it is VERY IMPORTANT to chew your food. Like pulverize it. No question is stupid. I do recomend you going on Lapband.com.

You might want to buy a book or borrow one from the library. I am sure the Dr has a little talk about lapband. YOU will not be going into this blind..I am sure. Best of luck.

no soda no soda no soda. NO white flour foods either.

There are no stupid questions. You need to allow your food to lie there awhile to keep you full. You should wait 30-40 minutes before drinking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
