How Many Calories Do You Eat ?

Y dr recommended 600 but that just leaves me STARVED. So I bumped up to 800-1000 and I've been at a stand still for 4 days with my weight loss. I really am staying away from a lot of carbs but my dr also wants me to cut out all dairy. Is this right?

In my opinion no. My doctor never told me to count Cal's. They also know I have Greek yogurt for Breakfast. There's difference however between low fat yogurt and milk, ice cream, McDs milkshakes.

I'm over 6 weeks out and have a personal target of 800cals a day but find evenings I need more so sometimes end up at 1,000-1,200. I have gotten a dog 2 weeks ago and we walk 2-3times daily.

My weight has remained the same for up to 5 days in a row and then it will start dropping. I dropped 1lb on May 13th, 1lb May 18th and can feel I might be down again in the morning. i dropped 3lb overnight on the 6th May after a slight gain the week before, what a great feeling!

I'm really happy with the speed of the loss overall but it's taken some time to realise that it's true that we shouldn't compare ourselves to others as our bodies deal with everything a little differently including burning fat etc.

I eat between 560 and 700 calories a day.. My wt has been coming off fine.. I can go 5 to 6 day's with the same wt, then on day 6 or 7 the wt will start falling again.. My dr. told me to stay between 700 to 900 calories a day so I pretty much stay around 600 because I don't count the calories in my drinks like crystal light,etc. so I add another 100 for that,so I'm right where they want me to be.. Dairy can have a lot of sugar in it, so that might be why he told you stay away.. I eat cottage cheese but it's the lactose free kind. I do have skim milk for my tea, but that's the only time I have it and it's just one cup. I would ask him why he doesn't want you to eat dairy?? seems a bit strange..

I was specifically told not to worry about calories, just eat 3/4-1 cup of food or until I am satisfied. I probably take in roughly 1200-1400 calories/day and jog for 30 minutes. Anything less than that and my weight loss slows way down.

Do what your surgeon tells you to do. If 600 calories isn't enough, ask what you can add, or schedule a fill. I will say I'd never have done well on 600 calories a day, but I wasn't given limits. As to dairy, most surgeons agree that liquid calories aren't the best choice. They just aren't as filling as solid Proteins.

You will not lose weight daily. You may even go weeks without dropping. It is just the nature of weight loss.

My dietitian specifically told us that we were NOT to count calories...only to make good food choices (SF, low fat, high protein), and determine portion sizes by volume (3 oz Protein and 2 oz of carb) for every meal. We NEED Calcium for proper nutrition and bone health!

From my experience, there are 3 factors which have slowed my weight loss: not having enough free fluids, not having enough calories (you should know what your calorie weight maintenance number is, so you are able to stay well under it), and not having enough Protein. I also hit a plateau every 10-12 pounds, where I will not loose any weight for a week, though I remain compliant with my diet. Very frustrating, but I know the routine now!

As always, making sensible food choices is essential for success. When you have too few calories, your metabolism goes into a sort of hibernation mode, and slows down. Weight loss is about making your metabolism work with you to burn the calories.

You will find every surgeon has their own ideas on the best way to lose weight. Some say 600 calories, some say don't count at all. Some say low carbs, some don't care about carbs. There is no standard, unfortunately.

I eat between 1100-1200 calories a day.

Everyone is different, you have to find what works for you.

When I'm at good restriction I don't count cals. I eat prob an ave of 600/day. I recently had an unfil for plastic surgery & with that came weight gain, plus I couldn't exercise, so I'm currently counting cal & trying to stay @ 1200. As long as ut loosing weight wouldn't stress to much about it.

For a while I became so obsessed with cals in cals out. I had a body bugg & tracked everything religiously. One day I just decided I had wls so I wouldn't habe to do all this crap... & stopped. My weight loss actually picked up once I put all of that energy into exercise & making healthy choices :)

But I do believe when u find urself slipping sometimes u need to get back on track with cal counting ;)

Thanks, that's great advice! I also hear calorie cycling works- the 80/20 rule. Decrease and increase your calories and eat right 80% of the time.

So I kinda kept track of my cals yesterday but really just ate until I wasn't hungry and made sure to eat protein first and only smart food choices. I lost a pound. I did also drink plenty of Water yesterday. Thank you for the advice!

My doc told me at least 800 after surgery, no less. I am slowly working my way to that. After the healing diet, I want to do 1200 like I was doing before the surgery. I lost 37 pounds counting calories pre op. I did 1000 calories for 2 weeks pre op, we were not required to do liquids pre op.

It's based on your goal weight.

I was told to make sure I got 55-65g of Protein per day. My goal weight is 155.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
