Looking For Good Surgeon In Southern California -- Recommendations To Use/avoid Please

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! :)

I'm looking for a great surgeon in the Southern California area. Can you recommend one and perhaps give a little background info? (Or tell me who to avoid.)

  • Were they your doctor?
  • Have you already been banded?
  • What insurance did you have?
  • What was your experience like?
  • Did they have a good bedside manner?
  • Was their office kind and efficient?

Any information you could give about your good -- and bad -- experiences would be appreciated.

I have TriCare, so if you know of any good surgeons who take this insurance, that would be especially appreciated.

Thank you! And best wished to everyone! :D

Kristen

I can't help you with who to go to but I have seen several articles lately on about 1-800-Get-Thin clinics that are being sued - I would probably advise to stay away from them.

I am pre-op and am going through Dr. Peter Le

ports office in Fountain Valley. They have a large staff of Dr.s and work through the Regional Hospital. So far so good for me.

Please avoid Milton Owens in Orange CA. He is beyond rude and tries to milk your every last penny. Also 99% of his advice to me had been drink Protein Shakes instead of eating an ill lose weight. No freaking duh!? I know that's told to everyone, but he never went over any meal or exercise plans or weight goals or ANYTHING. I was just fat girl #xyz to him, and he doesn't remember you ever! Some more details on my experience with him are in my previous post. I got him through Tricare, which is why I wanted to specifically warn you. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
