Ready To Give Up

Recommended Posts

I was banded Sept 19, 2011. While i lost some weight postop, i gained it all back when i started eating. I am currently at 8.5cc in an 11cc band. After 7-1/2 months i've not lost much (really, it's insignificant). I've tried so hard to follow protocol and the menu my nutritionist gave me but it's very hard. I was never much of a Protein eater and when i eat a meal with no carbs, i feel very depressed and i find myself looking for food.< /p>

I know planning my meals is the key but it's hard enough to cook and plan meals for the family, so often times i'm not getting my alotted protein and am looking for the carbs.

I'm also having a problem finding that balance between being hungry and eating too much that it causes me to vomit. This usually happens during dinner. (not every though)

What's even more frustrating and confusing is that i feel restriction when eating solid protein....healthy foods, but when it comes to certain carbs (ones not allowed to have), well, let's just say i can get through an entire bag of cheddar flavored rice cake minis with no problems whatsoever.

Sometimes i'm ready to give up.

i know you're not much of a Protein eater , but thats why you're not full, so thats probably why you're not losing weight. Have you tried tasting different types of protein ? maybe some things that you have'nt tried before ? I love Oberto's Turkey Jerky (Costco or other stores ) . its a good protein source. Some people like cooking tofu, its full of protein. maybe ask your Dr or a nutritionist about other protein sources. or maybe other bandsters have some ideas ? Good luck- hope you start loosing again soon, dont give up !!

Many cabs are slider foods that go right through the band.u really have to get ur Protein in.follow the protocol protein first, then veggies, then carb if u have room left :-)

Stay away from slider foods. Try to get some cardio in as much as possible. Helps with the weightloss and the endorphins help your thinking stay positive.

Try to track your food intake. And most important keep "SMILING ", it takes time. Don't worry your on the right track.........

Thanks! I know i have to take it more seriously. The eating that is.

As far as Protein, most of what i like are soft ones like greek yogurt, cheeses, milk, hummus, Peanut Butter, etc.

The solid Proteins that i eat are chicken, chopped meat, Beans, eggs, and i can tolerate tofu (although i've never prepared it).

The nut is allowing me to have my egg white omelette on a piece of toast cuz it just grosses me out to eat it alone. That's usually my Breakfast.

For lunch she recommends salads (with chicken or beans) but that has never ever filled me up unless i had a sandwich to go along with it. I am still hungry after that and end up going for a bowl of high Fiber high Protein Cereal.

The reason why i feel like giving up is because i feel so deprived and whenever i feel deprived, i go for the foods i'm not supposed to be eating (and somehow those go down perfectly, and in great quantities).

I'm wondering if i should even get a fill at my appt this monday. I mean i can get through the egg on toast with sliced tomatoes pretty well. It's dinner that is always my problem.......in those first few bites, either i'm not chewing well or i'm eating too fast cuz i'm not concentrating and then i get stuck....

what do all of you eat for your meals?

lapbandaddy, i'm with you there. Protein was really never the star of my plates. I always ate protein but not in such great quantities and certainly not by itself. What Protein Bars have you found to be good?

I make my shakes with bananas, strawberries and the most important "peanut butter". Really helps with the taste.....

Cliff bars are my favorite... ......lots of flavors to choose from!

That's amazing! Good for you!

Will check out the Cliff bars. I have stayed away from Protein Shakes because #1 the nutritionist said i need to get the Protein from solids, and #2 i got sooo sick of them from pre and postop times, that i can't even stomach thinking about them. lol

Don't give up! It is hard. But it is worth it. I have had a very rough time. I was banded in June 2005. I lost 55lbs the first yr. Then had a panic attack because People started saying I was looking good. Gained some back. Then life got really crazy.Needless to say it has been a long journey. I'm still not at my goal. In fact in the last year I have broken my ankle and have gained most of my weight back. I feel like I am starting over, but at least I can start over. I haven't had a fill in four years so may 29th I'm getting filled back up and staring over.

I have a hard time with Protein too Cliff bars are by far my favorite. meat gets stuck but chips go down. :D I so know how you feel. When I did have a good fill I couldn't eat at night either. Someone on here said to me "why do you have to eat dinner? " What a thought! ummmm I don't, I guess. So I just fixed myself a protine drink and sat down with my family. I have eight children an a husband so I didn't want to miss out on dinner. It worked pretty good.

The thing is we have to make the band work for us. We do have to change the way we think about food and the habits we have. That is what it is all about. I thinks so many of us think the lbs will just melt off once we have the band. But the band is only as good as we are. It is just a tool to help. I haven't taken advantage of mine latley, but I know it will work. hang in there an together we will do it! your new friend Amy

I use to say I need a band around my brain, ha. It took a while and some tough self talk to get over the hump of my life changes. I thought, really Jackie, are you going to spend all that money, go to the extreme of having surgery and not push through the barriers? Really? I was banded September 29, 2012. It took a while to feel restriction. I could eat anything I wanted.

What worked for me is doing what the nutritionist said. Protein.....I drink Syntrax nectar. 32g per serving. (Amazon) Water...every chance I get. Less food....I mean, I'm full (never got full before the band) exercise....I hate it, but, I work out 30 minutes almost every day.

Hang in there, you CAN do this....really, you can.

Hi, Don't give up! I was banded Oct.26 and am doing well . I find that if I keep tracking I can see where I need to add more protein.( I use my fitness pal) A pure Protein Bar in many flavors adds 20 gm of Protein. Always stack your food if possible, it fills you up better and longer. I also eat a few Snacks of fruit or carrots, etc in between meals. That takes the edge off. Exerscise is always a good thing. I find that I'm not hungry after a good walk. Don't deprive your self of everything or you'll always feel hungry for that.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
