Can You Feel The Port?

Recommended Posts

is the port placed really close to the surface of the skin, where you can feel it?

Mine, and I think most are, is right under the skin. I think it is sewn on top of the mucsle. I have always been able to feel mine. I was worried before I had surgery that it would bother me and creep me out, but it doesn't :)

As I've lost weight the port is easier for me to feel if I go looking for it. I still have about 60 pounds to loose (lost 65 so far). I wear a large/xl top. The port does not stick out. I can't feel it from the inside as a matter of course.

The only time I notice it's there is if I do intense exercise and the muscles are sensitive. I do a lot of exercise but I don't always get that feeling. Probably has something to do with being somewhat dehydrated.

Yes. The port is stitched up to ur stomach muscles as you lose more weight it becomes easier to find and feel.

I have hit my weight loss goal and my port sticks out a little bit. Also, when you get towards the end of your weight loss journey, the port tends to flip around. No worries though, an experienced doctor can flip it back whenever it comes time for adjustments. I have to say that the port is rather annoying but it's better than being obese !

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
