Too Fat For The Band?

Recommended Posts

Wow that Nurse is so full of ****!! I had a BMI over 78 and my Doctor told me if I make the changes and follow the rules he sees no reason why this wouldn't work for me. So far I have lost 28lbs since surgery on April 16. My BMI is still over 70. Have no fear if you make the effort and work with the band change will come. If I were you I would tell the Doctor exactly word for word what that Nurse said. Those types of statements are reckless and does nothing but plant a seed of doubt...

my BMI was 58 and I chose the band....I've lost 100 pounds with no fill. We each have to do what is right for us, and the band was right for me. I didn't want a plication or switch or RNY or any of that stuff. My goal wasn't to lose as much weight as fast as I could, and at my size, that would be a bad idea. I would just weigh a lot less but be stuck carrying around my wibbly wobbly meat suit. Not a pretty sight.

losing slowly, my body has at least half a chance to catch up, and while there is wibly wobbliness, especially in my arms, it's not as bad as it would be if i dropped 200 pounds all at once which is what i think would have happened with a more aggressive surgery....but again, you have to make the decision yourself and DON'T let any heath are professional bully you into something you don't want.

That is horrible. When I went to my support groups meetings I didn't find them helpful because no one at the meetings had gotten the band. They all had the other surgeries. When I met with my dr he told me to do what I wanted for myself. He did tell me that the band would be work and I would have to stick to a plan and that there was more success in bypass. I chose the band and had it done may 2nd. I met someone along my journey that also had the band done and she had a BMi over 50. Do what's best for you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
