I was banded on 2/3/12 and since then, haven't loss anything! The little I have lost has been my doing (calorie counting, dieting, exercising) but no thanks to the band. I thought it is suppose to restrict your eating. Is it because I need to be filled more?

I have an 11cc band and so far theres 4.5cc in there. What is feeling restricted suppose to feel like? When is this weight going to start coming off.. I'm so disappointed! I just dont see a difference. Anyone else in a similar boat or was in a similar situation?

I am not banded yet, will be on May 1, 2012, but what you are saying doesn't sound rite! Have you contacted your Dr.?

I would call your doctor and talk to him about it. I'm nearly 4 wks post op and have lost 20 lbs. I don't have my first fill until May 2nd. Hopefully you'll get somemore responses on here that have experienced the same thing. Good luck!

You obviously still need more fills, not everyone feels restriction at the same time or with the same amount of fill, believe me you will know when u start getting close to your green zone, so give it a chance and be patient, if u can go for another fill then make an appointment. most people need around half their band filled to start feeling it :)

I agree....maybe it is time for more of a fill...I see some people it takes up to 4 fills in order to feel satisfied, dont be discouraged just yet!!

As for the amount people have lost may also differ from the amount they started at..So that part is hard to compare..Keep up the work and it will pay off!!

Go get another fill..lol

I am in the same boat – banded the same week as you, on 1/31. I gained about 4 lbs. from the Fluid during surgery, was up to 235. I now weigh 225 – 2 ½ months post op and only lost 10 lbs. since surgery. I lost 15 lbs. the 2 weeks prior to surgery all on my own!!! I have been stuck at 225 for the last month and I am so disappointed in myself. We are in “bandster hell” as described by others on the site. We have the band, we have a few fills, but no restriction, thus we can still eat basically whatever we want and are not losing weight as expected. I have 7cc in my 11cc band. Luckily my doctor is also aggressive with the fills, so I got 5cc the first fill and talked him into 2cc on the second fill. I seriously can eat just like I did before the band – and am just as hungry, although most of it is really head hunger. Guess they should have banded my head instead of my stomach – lol. My next fill is scheduled for mid May, however, I plan to move it up a week and am going to ask for 1.5cc, which would put me at 8.5cc in my 11cc band, which I would think would give me some feeling of tightness and get me to the green zone. I guess I am going to be one of the patients where the band is almost closed before I feel restriction – sigh. I also eat sooooooo slow that my food literally slides right through the band – good and bad. Good because my eating habits are perfect for the band (eat slow, chew thoroughly), however bad because I don’t feel satisfied. I also feel like I self sabotage quite a bit. I wish I knew how to stop doing that. I can’t wait to feel satisfied on “only ½ cup” of food!!

You probably need another fill. This is normal, so don't freak out. It's hardest at the beginning, trying to get your levels right. When you have restriction, you will know. I feel pressure in my chest (which is actually the stoma; the stomach is really higher than most people think), and if you're eating too fast/too much, I start to feel a backup. That's the only way I can describe it. With experience, you'll know when you're at your limit, and what happens after you go over that (sadly, I still forget that sometimes!). I didn't start to have real restriction until about 4 months after, so don't worry. This is the hardest time when you're still relying on your willpower.

Thanks for the comments... especially the last comment posted. It feels great to hear these encouraging words. Really does! I did receive another fill 2 days ago, so I'm just waiting to see what happens from here.

In the meantime, I'm working out, eating right, and really trying my best.

Thanks again!

I hear you loud and clear....after my band I lost weight due to liquids and slashing the calories, fat and sugar out of my diet, the min i started eating "solids" I was at a stand still... had my first fill 4 weeks ago and was still at a stand still....many docs fill slowly, I just spoke with my doc today he said it is perfectly normal to not feel much a difference until 7-8 cc's maybe your doc can add more next time your in there. I went from 3 cc's after surgery to 6 my first visit and now I am at 6.5 cc's they said they do it a little quicker than most docs in the beginning because they didnt want me to get discouraged... I hope this helps you a little. take care. It will get better give it time. you will get a fill and go oh wow yep I feel the difference.... that when you know u r going to start losing a little more then you are now.

It took me 4 weeks to lose the first 13 pounds post surgery. I remember being discouraged too. But I plugged along journaling and keeping my calories close to 1000 a day for the first year. It will happen!

One thing you need to remember is the band is a tool to help you along the way. It takes a lot of work and willpower to get to your goal. I did not feel any restriction for the first 5 months, but I worked hard to make it work and followed the rules and lost from day one. I found that eating six times a day helped me, I pushed the Protein first and then veggies and fruit. (I ate my protein and stayed away from protein drinks) I stayed away from bread, Pasta, rice and all those kind of things they seem to be my down fall and it was easier just to say no! You can do!

I was banded 1/25 of this year and so far have lost 40#, but I also lost 28# about 2 weeks after surgery, do to swelling and the fill they put in at the time of surgery, that caused me not to want or be able to eat much. After that it seemed as if a mixture of walking 3 days a week, 2 miles and counting my calories ids what heped me after that. Now I have 6cc in a 10cc band as of last week and finally feel some restrictions. You might want to tell your doctor you think you may need a fill and see if that works. At first my doctor was hesitant, because he felt that at 5cc, I should have noticed a difference, but people are different, there is no magic number for everyone. Good Luck.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
