Lost One Pound In Two Months

Recommended Posts

Went in to see my surgeon today. I was not happy to hear the news that I have only lost one pound since my last visit in Feb. Actually I was kind of crushed :( I work my butt off 5 days a week at the gym. For an hour per day. So I started to figure that when I was not seeing the scale move weekly that I must be doing something wrong. I generally do not keep a food log. I just watch what I eat and how big the portions are, stop when I am full and so on. So since I work really hard at this working out thing (lol) I decided to start to talley up how many calories I am taking in per day. Well to my surprise I am not taking in many at all! Usually less than 1000 per day. yet I am burning 500+ a day in the gym. This is very bad. I am burning what I am eating and then some so my body is in starvation mode :( Well upon talking to the dietician she now wants me to take in 1400 cal per day and burn off about 100-200 cal in in gym. My question now is I am sitting here actually logging my food, cals, carbs and protein....How in the heck am I suppose to get in 1400 cals. I can barely get in 1200 cause I am not that hungry :(, yet I do not want to stop exercising to burn cals. I really love to exercise. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I could eat to add cals yet stay in my set carb intakes of 130 per day and Protein of 70 per day? Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated

This doesn't make sense to me. I struggle to understand starvation mode. If it really exists then we wouldn't have starving people in Africa and lots of people that are anorexic. Also if you were consuming so little then it would be really hard to find the energy to workout that hard and it does not sound as though you are struggling.

My inclination would be to keep up the exercise but to watch what I was eating. You could inadvertently be eating more than you think as it is hard to correctly log every calorie. Also when you have lost a lot of weight sometimes your body needs time to catch up. Plateaus are normal.

I agree, excersize will not only make you feel better but it is essential in weightloss..do you lift weights? If not maybe try to incorporate this, at least it will give you some muscle tone and help to burn more fat, so that if the scale does not move at least maybe your dress size will or take a diffrent shape..As for the eating, I think that eventually something will give, it has to!!! Maybe just try to switch up some foods?Maybe meet her half way with the eating and work out...

Nuts, Protein Bar, and Peanut Butter are just a few suggestions to up ya cals a little. You have to trick your body when you hit a plateau changing up food intake (adding or subtracting cals., and/or sugar) and/or exercise routine (bootcamp, weights, interval training, etc.).

I had a trainer last year, and she told me I would stop losing weight if my calories got too low. She suggested I add either an extra Protein drink (100-120) cal a day, or add a fruit. She stressed drinking the Protein immediately after my workout ( within 30 mins.) She also said to drink a little protein 30 mins. before the workout.

I had good results until I couldn't afford the 250.00 a month anymore. Hang in there. Perhaps your dietician can help.

Starvation mode, is a hard thing to know when you are at that point. usually the scale will be the only indicator that your body is fighting your efforts.

Try to stay hydrated, and cotntinue to work out on a moderate pace. If you find that you are having hunger eat something small and thealthy. This journey with the band can sometimes be difficult as I'm finding out with my almost fifty pounds lost for weeeks my scale as not moved, and now this week finally some movement and i'm now down five more pounds, but i had an awful week and I was hungry and had a massive family event happen wicvh was not god. Who knows. Just stay within your calorie plan and eventually you will leve this plateau.

Have with all the working out, have you lost inches rather than pounds? Muscle weighs more than fat... If you're replacing fat with muscle you won't see the scale go down as much, but your clothes should be looser... NSV?

Someone on another thread posted about starvation mode. Although you may temporarily plateau, your body will eventually start having to give up its fat stores. If this wasn't the case we wouldn't have starving people all over the world nor anorexia.

I am losing inches. I lost about 2-3 inches since my last appointment. My size 13-14's are no longer in my closet because they were too big, I now have 11's and 12's but those are starting to get a little loose. So yes I am seeing a difference in inches. I also do lift weights, 2xs a week for about an hour.

I am getting really close to goal. about 25 to 30 pounds, give or take so I suppose it gets really hard at this point, the weight doesnt just fall off at this point? Idk?

I think that is true- the closer you get to goal, the harder those last pounds are to get rid of. SO just be consistent! You're doing everything right. One thing that helps me is that I up my calories once or twice a week to 10 days- I am usually right around 1000-1100, but once in awhile I get to 1300-1500, with more Protein (Peanut Butter, another Protein shake, etc).

So shake it up!

wow, you're definitely in starvation mode. Start by increasing to 1500 calories and exercising for 30 minutes a day

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
