Lap Band Yesterday, Nausea Today

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went perfectly and I've been up walking around with no problems. Today I have been really sick. I've thrown up every time I've taken my medicine. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm not sure if it's normal or if I need to call my doctor.

Didn't your doctor give you something for nausea? Mine did in the hospital and prescription to take home. Not good to be vomiting so soon. I'd call your doctor tomorrow. Hope it gets better!

It may be your pain meds making you sick.

I was sent home from the hospital with a prescription for anti nausea suppositories.

Holly may be correct; opiate pain medications are notorious for causing nausea and vomiting. If you have not already contacted your doctor, do so ASAP and avoid getting dehydrated.

Hope you feel better fast...good luck!

The anesthesia always does this to me after surgeries (I've had 4). I think I also have trouble with opiates and I forgot they bothered me. They gave me liquid vicodin for post-op pain med ....uggh!

I took the vicodin that first night and then remembered the stuff makes me feel like crap, so I stopped taking it. I found that the post-op pain was not bad at that point. What I did was keep a large ice pack on my belly (high and to the left) and found that helped quite a bit with keeping the swelling down. As soon as the anesthesia got out of my system more, the nausea was much better.

Is your pain bad enough that you really need to take something? Have you tried Adult liquid Tylenol?

It is key to stay hydrated. Can you keep liquids down by taking very tiny sips often? If so, try to sip on some liquid Jello. Just mix up the Jello like normal, but don't put it in the fridge to jell. Save some out to sip on. It also works very well to decrease the nausea feeling.

As each day passes you will be doing better.......hang in there :)

I've had previosu surgeries that have made me nauseated afterwards. I let them know at the hospital. So, this time, no nausea. what to do now? Ask your surgeon for anti-nausea meds, I think!

I had the same issue the day of surgery and the next. For me it was my pain medications making me nauseous. I found ( via the wonderful nurses!!) that if I took my anti naseua meds about 15 minutes before my pain meds, then I did not have any issue. Also, make sure you are staying hydrated and walk quite a bit.

There is an OTC anti nausea medicine called Emmitrol. It's liquid, a little expensive but works GREAT. Hope this helps!

Come to find out I am mildly allergic to my pain meds. My surgeon didn't send me home with any nausea medication, but fortunately I called and got some. Thanks for everyone's help!

..its very important ,especially considering the nature of the surgery . i had an appointment with my anaesthesia specialist and we spent over half an hour just talking about nausea and preventing it. i did have some yukky moments after waking from surgery but it was soon dealt with, as the drugs were on hand to put straight into my IV... so it pays to talk it out with your anaesthesiest beforehand. Then they are fully prepared with the best they have to help you.

I haven't taken any pain meds today and I'm feeling tons better! I think it was the pain meds that did me in. I have had anesthesia before and have had no problems from it. The elixir just got to me I guess. Now if I can just get the gas pains to subside, I will be doing great!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
