First Fill Tomorrow...shrugs...do I Really Need It?

Recommended Posts

i am going for my first fill tomorrow under fluro. i was banded on 2-15-12 and have lost 19 pounds since surgery and 27 pounds including pre-op diet loss...i am not feeling hunger in between meals, so i am wondering how you know when you need a fill? i spoke with my doc and he said that they normally give 3-4 cc's at the first fill...i want to have the fill because i don't want to turn it down and then regret it...

so i guess my questions are

is my weight loss so far ok,

how will it change with a fill,

and how do know when you really need a fill...

I did not recieve a fill on my first appointment. You and the doc will decide what is best for you. Good luck!

I didn't get a fill either at my one month post-op appt. My surgeon said, after talking with me and discussing my eating and that I wasn't hungry and that I was losing weight...that I didn't need one. She said I had Fluid in the band from the surgery...and that I may in fact already be in the green zone. She then said that normally she would schedule my next appt in another month, but if I wanted I could come in two weeks. I originally made the appt for 2 weeks, but called to cancel as at two weeks I was still losing weight and still not hungry! My next appt is April 10...so we will see then. At first I too WANTED a fill as that is so much of what you read on here...but, I totally understand that I don't need one yet! I feel good, and am losing and am not hungry so I LOVE THE BAND!

Wishing all the best to you!

Kristen

I was banded on 2-08-12 and just had my first fill yesterday.. My P.A said the normal fill is around 3 cc, but since I wasn't having that many problems and was losing wt and not having too much hungry inbetween times she only put in 1 1/2 cc.. You could see if they would just do a small one since you seem to be doing just fine the way you are.. I discussed not having anything done and she said that would be fine, but I choose to go ahead and have a small one because I did have day's that I seemed hungrier they others..

Most doctors say full liquids for 24 hours then mushies for another 24 after a fill. If you had a bad fill donor eat solids today!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
