Single Incision Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have this? I heard that one of the doctors at my center does it this way. I am curious and thinking of switching surgeons at the last minute to have the surgery this way. Reason being is I am on an insulin pump and the less scar tissue in my abdomen the better for rotating my sites. Would I be crazy to ask to switch to this surgeon when my surgery is less than a months away?

I just had this done 8 days ago. Where there usually are five or six holes in u.I have one at my belly button and one tiny less than a dime size under my breast. So it will pretty much be an invisible surgery. I love it!

My doctor decided to do it the day of surgery! I guess it depends if you would rather have one big scar or 5 or 6 little ones. I would ask your surgeon which is best for you and what would work better with your pump. I don't regret my surgery but I think looking back on it I'd rather have a few small incisions instead of one big knotted scar on my belly button.

There was recently some news about WLS being a so-called "cure" for diabetes. I didn't see which WLS they were talking about in particular, and it may have just been Type 2, but it would be worth investigating. The blurb I saw on it was on ABC with Diane Sawyer if you want to google it.

I had single incision through my belly button. I think that it might be a bit more uncomfortable for the first few days of recovery since there is so much going on in that one spot but it was fine and the swelling was mostly down at about 3 weeks out. I have a few pictures on my profile. Managing 1 incision seemed easier to me than a couple of small ones. Anyone I've shown the incision to can't see it, and I'm just over two months out.

I think the incision are so small though, for the multiple surgery, there probably won't be a lot of scar tissue. Either method isn't super invasive. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
