Hard Time Eating

Recommended Posts

I recently had a fill about 1 1/2 wks ago. This is the most restriction I have ever had. Been banded for 6 1/2 months and this is fill #2. I'm not losing drastic amounts of weight at all. I don't eat much at all especially since this last fill. I eat a few bites and feel like its not going down very well. Such an uncomfortable feeling so I just stop eating. I notice this mostly with my first meal of the day. How can I get all my Protein in, get over my plateau, and eat more comfortably in the mornings? Supposedly I need 90 grams of protein a day!! That sure seems like alot....

my NP bumped me up from 60 to 80g of Protein a couple of weeks ago. I acheive it by having 2 high Protein Shakes in a day. Try having a Protein Shake for Breakfast if you feel tighter in the mornings. I've read of a few other people who are...and then by lunch time have loosened up a bit. I'm on my 2nd fill but not feeling restriction so I'm limiting my own food intake right now. However, all of a sudden, I can't seem to get more than a 1/4 c. of chicken down before I get stuck. I just stop eating it and go get some cottage cheese...which is a pretty good source of protein by theway, and its soft. :) If you're having real trouble getting your nutrition in, you might want to see about getting a slight unfill. God's blessings to you!

I would think that if your having trouble eating you may need a slight unfill.

I would go in for a slight unfill too. You need to be eating. As for having a harder time in the morning, maybe try a hot cup of tea or coffee first thing. I have a huge cup of tea before breakfast and have never had any problems eating in the mornings.

My doctor told me to drink something hot in the a.m. before eating. He said a lot of people have that problem. I drink a cup of hot tea because in the a.m. I am very tight. In about an hour or so I loosen up a bit and then I can eat something light. I had my surgery in 2010 and still have this problem. By dinner I am loosen up. But I just had a fill last month and I feel really tight. I went to Dr. and he looked at my stomach through flouroscope machine and he said I was fine. Just eat smaller portions. Since I tried that I feel so much better.

I know with me I cannot really eat too much in the morning. My band is super tight. I have a Protein Shake every morning and then later on I'll have either a cheese stick, almonds, or a bbq Protein cracker (from my doctor) as a snack. I've read that a lot of people are tighter in the morning. If you are having trouble getting solid Proteins down even when you are chewing alot and eating very slowly I would contact your Dr.

I have the same problem in the morning. Band is really tight until I have had a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Later in the day, I find it is not as bad, but I still have to eat slow. Eating too fast (which I still do way too often) makes me feel the uncomfortable restriction. I simply put the fork down for a few minutes and go back to eating when it passes. I am always tempted to stop eating at that point, but I force myself to finish the already small portions.

As you have likely been told, it's not unusual for meals to take 30 min. or more to finish.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
