Getting Banded 3/30 - So Nervous!

Anyone have any "MUST HAVE" advice for the few days?

Go easy on the "last supper" mentality. Remember that just because you're being banded, doesn't mean you can't eat anything...just means you have to be more careful about what you eat, and how much. Take a deep breath and know that you are doing something to make yourself healthy. The first few days are gonna be a little tough with the gas pain in your shoulder (walk as much as you can, use a heating pad, take gas-x), and in your abdominal area. But the more you move, the more that all works itself out. Don't be afraid to use your pain meds if you need them. Plan to not be at work for a few days. I took five days (2 of them were weekend days), I should have taken a couple more. Don't try to do too much too soon. Follow your doctor's orders. :) Best wishes and God bless you on this journey!

Thank you so much for the advice. It’s definitely been tough trying not to get wrapped up “Last Supper” mentality!!!

Do you know if the Gas-X strips work well?

I've heard they do. I've not tried those. I get the chewable tablets and they seem to work pretty well. But to be honest, the walking seems to help more. I think its because the air isn't in your digestive system. Its in your abdomen trying to work its way out. I think the walking helps the body re-absorb it and it escapes the "regular way". Or we could just be sweating it out...I don't know. LOL...but it works. :) I've heard others say that a heating pad helps with the pain, but I never had to use that.

You've worked hard so far...treat yourself to something pampering like a manicure or some shopping or a good book. I purchased a pair of pajamas in a smaller size for recovery time. And I fit in them!

I also spent my recovery time at my parents so I went I got my room ready with all my stuff so I wouldn't have to unpack and everything was good to go when I got home.

Congratulations and have a speedy recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
