Weird Phantom Pain?

Recommended Posts

I had my band removed in july and I still find that I'm getting pain where the port used to be. Not too often, sometimes I go a month or two without it, but enough where I notice it. I feel a sharp pain and then sometimes a dull pain for a little bit. Sometimes I get it after I eat too.

Is it just scar tissue, or nerves or something? Anyone else experience the same?

may I ask why was your band removed?

The band can squeeze around a set of nerves, which was never mentioned to me by my original surgeon. Turns out, it can affect some people greatly and result in various pains in the upper body. I had/have nerve damage in my shoulder because of it and an outrageous pain in my cheek and left ear that progressively got worse, resulting in me getting it removed. I complained about pain from day one, just wasn't heard until I found my current doctor who eventually had to remove it.

I thought since the band was gone (and has been for 8 months now), I wouldn't have a pain or contracted sort of feeling in the port site anymore. :-/

Honestly, I recovered quickly and felt great in a week's time! I didn't need pain meds after 2-3 days. When the band was placed it took probably about 5 weeks for me to feel right again, I struggled to move around for a long time (probably why I ended up having to get it out! My original surgeon was terrible).

After removal, eating will still be slow. You may still feel like the band is there. Just gradually introduce foods. I would say in 3 week's time you should be able to eat with no issues, in small portions so your stomach adjusts.

awesome thanks.. did food still get stuck with the band being removed????

I never experienced that, I just got a weird feeling in the beginning when I would eat. I had trouble eating so many foods with my band in (things I should have been able to eat), so once I got it out it just felt strange!!

Do you mind me asking why you're having it removed?

Hello! Thanks for sharing your story! I also get the worst gas in the world, but it just stays inside me and then I get constipated and then comes the worst pain of my life...

Maloxx has been a savior for the past four years also, but not when the serious pain comes. I'm also considering getting the band out, but I'm scared of going back for surgery. Although I didn't have problems with my band, I've had scary health problems that occured post surgery including: hypthyroidism, Celiac's, and the worst gas/constipation in the world usually once a month. I don't know my body likes the band either :/

Keep me updated :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
