Important Question For Your Anatheisologist

Recommended Posts

Please talk with your anatheisologist about nauseous. They don't always put the medicine in for nauseous.

I was banded yesterday (3-15) and was worried about throwing up. I read these posts about how folks spent the day throwing up, one person even said "I would rather be fat"; wow you know that had to be bad.

My partner said she got sick her first time because they didn't put the med in, but was OK the 2nd when they did.

I wasn't sick at all and I asked the anatheisologist for the medicine.

I did ok but they gave me a prescription of quick dissolve (under your tongue) Ondansetron (Zofran) in case I got nauseous because throwing up is not good after this procedure!

I didn't have to ask. When I was having my IV put in and given heparin and stuff the nurse put a scopolamine patch behind my ear. I never had one issue with nausea. (Besides day 4 after I took it off, I went out shopping and after a couple hours I started getting a little queasy). The only thing about the patch is that it can mess with your vision. I had been trying to read and my eyes weren't able to focus or something and then I found out the patch has that as a side effect, I had forgot I even had it on, once I took it off all was well with my vision.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
