Hi Sammee

What brilliant going - certainly hope I can follow in your footsteps. I am new to all this - both banding and the email thread posts etc.

Was banded on 20 Jan 2006 and to date have lost 10.4kg - slow going I guess, but it is steady. Had my first fill on 28th Feb. He insert 4ml but ... I feel no restriction, in fact, possibly less than previously. Is this normal?

Keep up the good work - you're a star. By the way how do I view the photo's?

Regards

Jaytee

The pics are on my docs site.. I will have to chase up the URL.. I have lost it in the mess that is my "favorites".

As for your loss to date? You are doing so well! 10.4kg in just over a month? That is fantastic. Be proud.

Not feeling restriction after your first fill is fairly normal. And if your surgeon put in 4ml, you would have a 10ml (I think) VG band. So it may take a few fills to really feel it.

We have a few Aussies who have a VG band (I have a 4ml band) so they may be better able to help you out with that one.

But way to go! :clap2:

Hi Sammee

Thanks for your response. Yes I have a 9ml band. Glad to have some advise that it is normal not to feel too restricted at this time. And ... to hear that you reckon I am doing okay in the loss department. Just so scared of doing something wrong and causing the band to slip or that I may have a leak in the port or something equally as tragic. I went in for the op knowing almost nothing about it as I am the sort of person to back out if I know too much!!! So .... subsequently I have a hell-of-a lot of learning and catching up to do now that I am banded. Keep up the good work - only 9kgs to go - amazing and so very, VERY exciting.

Best wishes

Jaytee

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
