1St Fill This Afternoon:)

Recommended Posts

I have my first fill this afternoon. I am so ready to do this. This past week I could have eaten just about anything, although I didn't:) I stuck to the plan, but I will feel much better when I know I have a bit of a deterent facing my cravings.

Last night at my class, one of the students I barely know walked up to me and asked me if I had lost weight recently. It felt really good. Honestly my clothes feel looser, but I guess my mind has not adjusted to the change yet, because I still don't see it in the mirror myself. I think it is a bit of my teenage years with Bulimia looking at me again in the mirror:(

But anyway, it was nice to hear the words regardless. I haven't really told many people that I had the Lap Band surgery done, other than family and close friends. Maybe one day I will be able to open up more about it, but for now most people I just say yea, I'm losing weight because of health issues I want to clear up. Is that bad? I'm not so sure why I am afraid to open up about it to strangers, maybe just a bit of insecurity I guess. Who knows. But looking forward to a much bigger change by September when my son comes home from Aphganistan to get married. Hopefully I can where a dress and feel comfortable by then.

I know the feeling. I have not opened up to alot of people about my band. I do not know why, just my husband, children and a few close friends know. I guess I may be insecure about it or afraid I will be one of the ones that fails at it. I am not exactly sure.

I haven't told many people either - only those I know would be totally supportive. This is a personal matter, girls, and we don't HAVE to tell anyone! Just smile, tell them you're trying to eat right and exercise more (which is true) and let it go at that.

Armymom, take an icepack with you and put it on your port for a few minutes before they do the fill. It helps with the needle AND the bruising.

I honestly don't feel the poke of the needle at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
