Stomach Virus With Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Came down with a bad stomach virus. Vomiting profusely. It all happened so fast that I was unable to get nausea meds. I have now stopped vomiting..but my back and chest area is hurting. I feel like someone punched me in the stomach. I am still able to drink liquids and eat small amounts of Jello. Don't even want to think of food. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Could this pain be from swelling of my stomach?. Does anyone know how long this pain usual last (days, weeks)? I have a call into the Dr.'s office but they haven't called me back yet. Had plenty of stomach viruses before my lap band, but never had lingering pain like this.

I went through the same thing 2 weeks ago. I was fine 4 days after the virus went away.

Monday at 3 am I woke up feeling so nausated, broke out in a sweat I've never sweated like that before I also started dry heving, but nothing came up.. My body felt like a wet noodle and I thought I was going to pass out.. I couldn't stand without feel dizzy and it scared me because I just had surgery on the 8th and I didn't want anything moving or getting sick from being sick.. My husband had been sick with nausea and diaherra since Friday so I knew it had to be a virus.. I had two Protein Shakes and 1 Jello that day. I stayed in bed a slept all day and woke up tuesday feeling better but still slightly nauseated.. I'm still feeling nauseated when I eat and drink, but I make myself eat and drink and the feeling goes away pretty quick.. I was luckly that I still had nausea meds in the house, but I have never had that before.. I would talk to the dr if you feel you did something to your stomach.. My dr told me to always listen to my stomach and if I have any problems or concerns call the office and they would tell me weather I should come in or not. He says he would rather be cautious then have something go wrong... Hope you feel better soon.

OK, I'm a nurse and have been there myself as with employees. The most likely cause of your discomfort is muscle strain from all the vomiting. It will get better in a few days. You most likely have had the Noro virus (also called Norwalk virus) which can vary in intensity of symptoms. Some people have it way worse than others and it spreads quickly, five day incubation period after exposure. Clean bathroom and kitchen surfaces with 1:10 bleach/water solution. General cleaners don't kill the germ. Hope this helps.

I had a stomach flu less than a year after surgery and I was so scared it was like no flu I had ever experienced. Sharp pains and as we all know vomiting after banding is just weird. I took my anti-nausea meds that had been prescribed post surgery and that helped allot!

Ug, this is the worst! I find since being banded "real" vomiting is hard to do. Mainly because it has such a small opening to come back up through! The couple of times I've been sick to my stomach, it was NOT fun. Remember, you have a band around your stomach now and it's probably irritated just as if you had a bad bout of PBing. Stick to liquids for a couple of days and you'll be better soon!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
