What Is Your Signal?

Recommended Posts

My full signal has changed over the last 2 1/2 years. I have myself trained well at this point.

For the first few months it was left shoulder pain/discomfort for my full signal. If I wait for the hiccup, I've gone too far. Sometimes I'll get a bit of a runny nose feeling and if I take a bite too much I'll have a sneezing fit like a seasonal allergy thing. Most of the time now I simply lose interest in the food and that is my signal to just stop.

Do people only get a warning sign after they have been filled. I am 5 weeks post op with no fill and I havent had a sign line that yet. I also only eat a cup of food per meal so I may not be eating enough for a stop signal which is fine by me.

Nope, I am only a week and a half banded and no fill.

Thanks for sharing everyone! : )

Interesting topic...and how different everyones signal is.

When I am full...first, I feel like I have to burp (and I usually burp a few minutes later). If I don't stop eating, I get a dull pain in my pouch as it fills up. If I don't stop eating then, I assume sliming and vomiting would follow (I haven't gone this far and I don't really want to test this theory). I have had two sliming episodes (not related to overeating, but eating the wrong food), both Peanut Butter related and that was more stuck. In those cases had taken two, obviously too big bites of a peanut butter sandwich, and got mildly stuck. I haven't repeated that experience (but it took me two tries to learn the lesson) and now avoid peanut butter. I guess the key is to listen to your body and learn from your mistakes.

I do this really weird hiccup burp thing. That's how I know I'm done! Or I feel full. Either way, the hiccup burp thing is normally my stop sign.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
