Vommitting & Pain After A Fill

Recommended Posts

I have been struggling to find that "sweet spot" everyon refers to. I have had several fills and unfills in the last four months. I went to see the doctor today for a fill - I had 2.8 in a 10cc band and he added 3zcc more!!! the max i have ever had in the band was 5 and now i have 5.8 I have never had my band this full - I also have never had 3cc at one time -it's usually like 1cc or a .5 cc. When I was at the doctor Water was going down fine but by the time I got home I wasn't feeling that great. I started throwing up Water almost immediately from the time I got home - since then I haven't had anything to drink and i am still throwing up and now it's like a brownish / black color.

It seems like once every hour i start getting back pain and chest pain which immediately goes away once I get sick.

I'm contemplating whether I should give it a couple of days to settle down or if I should go straight back to the doctor.

Advice please?

At least call and describe your symptoms! I got some hard fills and was able to ride them out, lose weight quickly, and then it loosened up. But after a day or two you MUST be getting all the Water and Protein (liquid is ok) you need every day!

I would definitely contact your doctor asap. Throwing up brownish /black liquid is not normal at all, it may well be its unrelated to the fill or it could be a symptom of something else. If it was just that you were too tight and only having Water you would be sick/productive burp with colourless watery foam. You may find it easier to swallow warm water it sometimes helps.

Please contact your doctor and dont wait ...

OMG that is one 4 letter word I am afraid of (puke) vommitting/sick.

This one of the only fears I have so new into this.. I know what goes into the larger stomach will some how find its way back out it it needs to.

I will be calling my doctor ASAP if I was in your shoes....

It really sounds like you just filled your pouch with Water and it did not go through the stoma when you were at the office. Water should always flow freely through the band. I think you need to go back first thing this morning and get at least a tiny bit taken out. Make sure you can drink more water than the capasity of the pouch before you leave the office.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I went back first thing this morning. The doctor was at the hospital doing surgeries all day but I met up with him in the ER and he withdrew some of the Fluid. I can't believe how much better I feel.

Yesterday I felt like I was hit by a MAC truck - it didn't get any better through the night - but taking a little Fluid out made all of the difference!

Everytime you get filled you cause a bit of inflamation then swelling. Even Water goes real slow. You should sip water slowly and only sip again when the previous sip has passed thru. Anything you drink or eat will add to the inflamation and swelling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
