What Pre-Op Program Does Your Doc/insurance Offer?

Recommended Posts

I was just approved by insurance last week and have scheduled surgery for 4/13 (yes, I know it's a Friday). Yea!

I've been wondering what others have done pre-op as part of their doctors and/or insurance requirements. I feel very fortunate that docs with DeanCare decided they needed to build a "program" when they decided to offer WLS. Since August I have had monthly "group" appointments that are a combination support group as well as 1 on 1 with the doctor, attended support group meetings, had a psyc eval, met with a nutritionist and attended informational meetings offered by the department. As part of my personal pre-op plan I have been on a modified very low calorie diet, a combination of Protein Shakes, bars and healthy foods. I have lost 63 lbs so far (+/- 3 lbs lately), my top weight was 270.

The only drawback I see for myself is the lack of banders in my area. This site has been wonderful for me. I have not yet met anyone who has a band, only bypass patients. My insurance will only consider covering the band, and I feel more comfortable with a foreign object in my body rather than re-routing my insides so I guess it's a win-win for me.

Congrats on losing 63 pounds! I'm having trouble using as I seem to be on a constant "last supper" type mentality. I'll start my pre-op diet in a week or two, I'll find out tomorrow for sure. Good luck with your journey!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
