Lap band and Xenical

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what you all thought about a banded person taking Xenical as well.....:D

hehe, well it's kind of silly really. I have an entire box of Xenical here, but since I started the process for the band I stopped taking it. But it's not cheap stuff you know and I would hate to waste it. So I was just wondering if it would be going to far to keep taking it after I'm banded, or if it would have negative effects on the band.

Taking it is a bad idea. Taking it just because it's there is an even worse idea. You spent a lot of money on it, yes. But the money is gone regardless of whether you take it or not. If that stuff worked, you wouldn't have needed the band in the first place.

Toss it.

Kat,

Ive never taken Xenical - BUT I have taken another diet drug while banded. My side affects were increased restriction and loss of appetite...which I welcome.

Just my personal opinion but I got banded to get away from all that crap. I have tenuate tablets here from about 1997 which I really must throw away. I'd rather lose weight with the band than risk a heart attack or stroke in the process. Those things had me vacuuming the house at 2 am. Awful. Xenical, well the side effects are enough to put me off for one.

I know that Xenical causes people not to have control over their bowel movements. Basically it just comes out whenever you eat too much fat even if you aren't on the toilet.

I don't think it's a good idea.

Kat, I wouldn't think Xenical would hurt the band, the question is are you eating enough fat for the pills to make a difference? As you know the pills prevent absorption of 1/3 of the fat one eats and 1 gram of fat has 9 calories, so if you have a meal with 12 gr. of fat you save 36 calories. I too still have Xenical in the medicine cabinet, but at this time I'm not eating enough for them to make a difference. Do what works for you sister.

I think your right about that, the amount of food we eat on the band (and if it's good banster food) doesn't contain enough fat to make taking the pills effective.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
