First Fill...need help

Recommended Posts

Ok, this probably has been asked a million times but.....I had my first fill on Thursday and I have been eating like a pig all weekend. Do I call first thing in the a.m. and tell my doc that I need more? Or ride it out a while and see if my restriction magically appears? I see so many people posting about how it took a week or two for their fill to work. I don't know what to do. I could use a little input. Thanks.

Great question! I had a fill 4 weeks ago & felt it was a pretty good one. However, I was still able to eat a lot more then I thought I should. I called & made an appointment with my doc for another fill. She scheduled me for 3 weeks out. Then, last week I all of a sudden tightened up & couldn't eat a THING!! I slimed just about everything. It took 3 weeks for the fill to kick in. Very strange. I am supposed to get a re-fill tomorrow & I canceled it.

So, give it some time. Just wait & see how it goes. These bands like to play tricks on us.

I recvd my first fill of 1.5cc and had no restriction. A month later, I had another fill 2.00cc still had no restriction. I waited another month recieved 2.5cc and I was restricted at the dr office. Its been 3 weeks and It seems like 2weeks after I got my 3rd fill I tightened up some more. I am very restricted in the morning, can not eat or drink until around 11 or 11:30 and that amount is 4-6 oz. Needless to say I will not be getting another fill for a while. I have lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks. I am just waiting for the rest to come off and for Texas to warm up so I can get my excercise in, just been lifting hand weights and doing a few workouts at home but prefer walking.

I've been banded for 3years but due to some complication I had to get all my fill out because my stomach was swollen. Now, I tried to do this Portion Control w/out any restriction and it worked for a while but I've gained a lot of weight back and tomorrow I've decided to go for the 1st fill and don't want to because I'm worried that I won't get to eat anymore (obvioulsy) and since I haven't had a fill in a while how my tummy will react to eat, because I don't want to throw up anymore. HELP!

It's normal to need more than 1-2 fills to get to a good level! The average is about 3-5 , at least a month apart. Your stomach needs very small increses to get used to the pressure. If you get too much, you'll need it out,a rest period, and you'll end up further behind. Be patient, and work on all the other things YOU have to add to the mix to do well. Renee

Well I didn't go get my fill because the next day I couldn't eat anything all day. So, I'm back on the lovely diet pill phentermine, I thought getting this band I would never ever take another diet pill again. I'm sooooo angry about this

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
