Looking For A Mentor

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am pre-op and looking for a mentor. I was recently submitted to insurance and am waiting for the result. The program I am going through is very thorough so I can be pretty sure I will be approved. I have lost 62 lbs in 6 months working with Dean Weight Management Program (I have Dean Health ins in South Central WI). My weight loss has slowed significantly recently. I love the staff that I work with and have attended a couple of WLS support groups there. The drawback of the support groups is the lack of LB patients. Most have had RNY, for several reasons I have chosen the Lap Band. The fact that my insurance will cover most of it and none of a bypass also "weighed heavily" on my decision. 001_smile.gif

I hope to find someone willing to give me pre-op and post-op advice as well as what to expect long term, i.e. getting to the sweet spot, plateaus, the need for long term support. With the internet I don't think I need someone who lives in my area, just someone willing to give advice and help me stay positive!

Congrats on your decision and I hope insurance comes through for you soon! Feel free to message me if you have any questions; I'm 1.5 years out and still learning every day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
