Recommended Posts

I felt the same as you for the first... 3 days. I wouldn't allow myself to say regret though. I gave myself a week. I hope you feel better soon!!!!!!

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. The first week is the worst and then it starts to get better. I had to sleep almost sitting up (lots of pillows), with a heating pad and I took pain killers and gasex almost every 3 hours for the first 4 days after surgery. After day 4, I cut back on the pain killers and took gasex strips when needed. It took me almost a month to feel completely normal again...but each day, does get better and better. Get lots of rest and let yourself heal...you'll feel better soon.

I'm doing so much better now. Just some discomfort where the port is some back pain here and there from the gas. That's the main thing now is the gas pains.

GAS-X is the thing. Gas was really bad of me, it woke me at night for a few days like somebody kicked me. I walked through the house like a ghost in the middle of the night. Keep moving, get up and walk a little every 20min. or so just to keep things moving. It does get better, but....gas and tummy rumbles will now be a real part of your life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
