I'm so down in the dumps. I feel so discouraged right now. I was banded 1.27.10 and lost about 65lbs since then. In November of 2011 i was having serious issues with the band, throwing up everything including Water. My doctor got worried and took the maturity of the Fluid out of my band. He sent me for testing, no slippage, just a lot of reflux. I haven't been back there yet to find out what the next step is. And I gained about 25lbs back since. I feel like a failure.

I hate being fat. I feel like I failed at the one thing that make me not fat. Ugh. Anyone else go through this?

Thanks,

Alicia

Maybe your band was just too tight. A small unfill may have made a huge difference. Where are you at now - are you completely unfilled or do you have some Fluid back in your band? You need to get back to your Dr ASAP. If you don't go back he can't help you.

You haven't failed. All you have to do is go back to your Dr, start getting filled again and recommit to the healthy eating and exercise that helped you lose the 65lb

OMG- I am going through the SAME thing. I had a complete unfill on 1/1/12 and now have 7 cc's back but still no restriction. I miss the "green zone". I haven't gained YET but I feel like I am on the strictest "diet" to maintain this weight loss without the band. So frustrating!!!!!!!

the beautiful thing about that band is you can always start over. you know that you can do this cuz you did it before. i would encourage you to work with your surgeon in getting back to your green zone. you're only a failure if you give up and since you have the strength to go thru this surgery in the first place you have the strength to pick yourself up, dust off and get back on track.

best wishes and success!!!

During my presurgery journey I had to postpone my surgery by 5 months. In that period of time I lost an additional 20 pounds. If I can do it it can be done. Buy a food scale and measure your Protein. Not glamorous but also not difficult. If you would be embarrased for your doctor to see a food in your food cart don't buy it.

I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!! The same thing happened to me, I hadn't had a fill recently and I hadn't had any problems before. I had an issue at one meal, not a big deal I thought, just sliming. I chewed some Papaya, slimed, burped and went back to eating. Same thing the next day and it continued until I got to the point I couldn't keep anything down. DH made me go in, I didn't want to because I was loosing. Doc did an unfill and I felt so much better, did all the test and nothing was wrong. Between mid June and Oct I put on about 18lbs. and was very unhappy. When I finally went back for a fill the PA explained that I had irrated my throat and it caused swelling, had I done liquids for a couple of days and worked back up to solids I would have been fine. But because I didn't, I actually made the situation worse because I kept trying to eat. The unfill required me to be on liquids and the swelling went down, I then waited to long to get a fill (FEAR) and starting eating to much. I have since learned that my band is very fickle, it reacts to changes in the weather and stress. Not only that, I might be able to eat something for lunch that I can't eat at dinner. Some mornings I can only sip hot tea, other days I can have an egg and sasuage without problem. If you have a bad episoide stop eatting right away, even if you just started. Sip some warm liquids and do soft/mushies for a day or two and it should work itself out.

I had my band almost 5 years ago...i lost only half of the weight i wanted to, had my last fill 2 years ago, havent lost a pound , but havent gained....24 hour a day choking, sliming, puking forced me to have all the liquid removed after x ray showed no slippage....Guess, what? still puking, choking sliming daily, sometimes up to 24 hours....my family Dr suggested i have it removed since constant irritation of the esophagus sets you up for Esophagal cancer! But of course, the lap band docs wont tell u that! and my insurance wont pay for removal! Yes, i am staying on a very strict diet since it has became habit now....sorry, but you need to really think about this before you do it, and the pre counseling wont tell you how bad it can get...ugh!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
