Been Following A Super Strict Aktins Induction-Type Diet....too Much Perhaps?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Ok so I'm about a month and 2 weeks post op... Lost 37 lbs so far... However I've kinda slowed my roll..

I've been following a super high Protein and low carb diet ( like the only carbs I was getting was from the bits of lettuce and Tomato I've been eating....

I found that I'm pretty much nauseous EVERY DAY! I don't want to eat anything because of this nausea and I'm pretty sure that at this point I'm not eating enough.

A sample day:

Breakfast: Maybe 2 pieces of Canadian Bacon

Lunch: Super small salad consisting of lettuce tomato, chicken & oil/Vinegar/salt/pepper

Dinner: Maybe half of a small steak and a sugar free popsicle

So... I think I may not be eating enough... And that I'm being too strict with my carbs.. I know most people DO have some carbs and even things like wheat bread or tortillas on occasion... Should I be expanding my diet some?? Any ideas on what all the nausea is about?

My problem is that my Dr. is a great surgeon... But not much of a people person.. He's super curt and short when I ask questions and he's just not much help.. So I've been relying on fellow banisters for help.

THANKS!!!!!!!!

Seems to me you need to be eating more, especially some fruit and vegetables. Your body is telling you it's not getting enough of the right sort of fuel so listen to what it is telling you and move forward with confidence.

It's a shame about your surgeon. Hopefully you can find the information you need here.

I couldn't possible survive on that either.

Why not add some healthy carbs e.g wholegrains, seeds, veg, fruit. Maybe have a couple of nuts. Some yogurt or other dairy.

You need more and more variety.

Savvy... I'm in the same boat you are. For six months, I had two shakes a day and a salad. I've recently begun getting very light-headed and have passed out on one occasion. I've also stopped losing weight.

Like you, my lapband doctor is very curt and not someone you can talk to. My regular doctor told me that over an extended period of time, high-protein, low-carb diets can affect normal brain function. He thinks I'm not getting enough food and that I'm not learning how to eat correctly (which, duh, is kinda why I'm in this mess to begin with). He recommended WW and says it's important to get a variety of food and actually learn how to eat, not just starve myself and low-carb it to get the pounds off.

I have no other advice other than I'm feeling your pain. I'll be watching your thread to see what others advise as well. Good Luck! :)

It definitely sounds like you aren't eating enough. My nutritionist recommends eating every 3-4 hours. Every meal should have 3-4 oz. of Protein, and two of the meals have fruit and two have veggies. If there is any room left, some starches can be eaten. This seems to average about 1,000 calories per day. Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
