Has anyone had hernia repair the same time as lap band surgery? Was wondering if it takes longer to recooperate.

I had no idea I had one until I woke up after surgery and the nurse told me. My Dr fixed it with a few stitches and I haven't had any heartburn since. Good luck

I had surgery Jan 5. The Dr. said I had a very large hernia which makes since because I had to worst acid reflux aka indigestion. I have recovered great! I'm 10 days post op and feeling good. And praise the Lord no more acid reflux!

I had mine repaired before lap band surgery. There's nothing to it. No pain at all.

I think everyone is different. I had hernia repair while my band was placed and I was in so much pain. I guess I have a low tolerance for pain anyway, but I was taking that liquid pain medicine religiously and still was hurting. The worst was when I tried sleeping. I couldn't lay down in the bed with hubby, so I had to sleep propped up on the couch. I was having weird dreams and kept waking up. Then I had to blow in that thing every couple of hours. It sucked beyond belief, but all was well after a week.

I had a large hernia and I was having a lot of heartburn because of it. It was fixed during surgery and now I am off of all meds. I have one extra little scar but the recovery is the same.

I suspected I had a hernia, and I did! I've had breathing issues for about 10 years, it always felt like something was sitting on top of my diaphragm, it was the hernia... I also had esophageal adhesions I didn't know I had - from having bad asthma and some pretty bad bouts of bronchitis over the years. Had swallowing issues where sometimes food would get stuck and I'd have to burp it back up...this was BEFORE the band. Since I had the band and the adhesions and hernia repaired, I can breathe better and I have not had ONE stuck episode! I can eat steak (chewing it really well, small bites, of course) again without having to burp it back up! I LOVE my band!

I had a medium sized one they found during the surgery. Before surgery I would have lots of gas and heartburn whenever I ate, and that was why! I don't know if it made my recovery longer, but I haven't had any issues with heartburn since.

Heartburn and acid reflux instantly gone once repaired. I did feel a pulling from where my hernia was repaired up into the left side of my face as if it was sewn up really tight and I was pulling when I would lay back. Pain lasted about a month but no problems since. I didn't know I had one until they went in.

I had mine done at the same time "biggest I have seen" he said, Also had to reinforce the botom portion of my esophagus he said .. kinda eaten away from the acid.. Still 2 weeks off and I was great. Unfortunately it didn't help my heartburn at all, still on meds twice a day

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
