I only weigh in on appointment dates (about 1x a month) so I don't focus on the scale but rather how I feel, look, fit in clothes. Plus since scales vary, I only weigh on one scale because that is my benchmark.

Fluctuations are normal for everybody--band or not. In December I had my fill and I was up 8 lbs. Four days later, I was down 9 lbs. It's crazy but remember it's a marathon not a race. Some days your body will give up a lot; others not so much.

I was on a 2-month plateau but working with my nutritionist and doctors (as well as going back to "Lap Band 101") I seem to be back on track.

I'm about 30 minutes northwest of Chicago. I was banded on Dec. 20 and just had m my first fill today. I'm excited to see how much restriction this will give me. I'd love to keep in touch with everyone here!

Hello Buddies

I want to share what Im feeling.... I have a total of 4cc in band and i am hungry!! i feel really ashamed to say this but I ate a cheeseburger and fries today. i felt ZERO Restriction. As i ate i was sure i would be full but i enjoyed munching away at the cheeseburger and fries. I have noticed i dont have restriction. i havent eaten like some people say they eat. using measuring cups and scales. i know i got lapband to help me but it does make me feel like crap when i am able to eat junkfood. i usually eat healthy. just this morning i ate 2 eggwhites scrambled eggs and turkey bacon and i ate a whole wheat pita and Water. but i blew it eating junk. i am allowing myself to eat 1200 cal a day. how many cal are u guys eating a day? i need support buddies

My first question is: What triggered you to want to eat a cheeseburger? Were you too hungry? Bored? What were you doing? (Now I sound like my psych doc!)

My first comment would be: DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP! This is not a perfect science nor a quick fix. Take one day at a time. One meal at a time. It can be daunting looking too far ahead with great expectations. The LB doesn't stop anyone from eating "junk" food. And an occasionally cheeseburger is not going to signal failure.

It may take several fills to feel restriction so be patient, work with your medical people and you'll get there. Trust me, once you get it you will know it!

BTW...I normally eat between 1000-1300 calories. Sometimes I eat 1500 and on occasion I can put away 2000. But that's the give and take of life.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say "hi" and say I'm in New Lenox, Illinois, so really close to Joliet. I was banded on October 18th and have been loving the lap band. I have lost 25 pounds and have had a couple of fills and feel like the last one really helped me get to the green zone. Well, best of banding to everyone!

This thread is great! I love hearing from people from my area!

After having my first fill of 2.75cc, I still have very little restriction. I have been feeling frustrated and anxious about everything, but I also know that it takes time and fills and getting to know my new body and self for this to really work. I have my next appointment in about four weeks and will most likely get a second fill at that time.

For now, I'm working on drinking enough Water and eating only three meals each day. My exercise is pretty good and Protein is as well.

Do any of you attend support groups? I go to the Kane Center on the first Saturday of the month. If anyone is interested in going let me know.

I hope you all have a great week!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
