Just banded - newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded 1/23/2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Dr Trace Curry. My starting weight was 280 pounds. I am currently at 251 and feeling a little hungary. My first fill is scheduled for 3/1/06, any thoughts on what I might expect? I have had a few bouts with throwing up seem to be over it now. Just wanted to get my feet wet and join in the forum. Really looking forward to learning more about this banding from here.

Welcme to Bandland, John. Are you eating solids yet? At less than a month out, I was only on mushies. Not sure how Dr. Curry has his people go back to eating. Are you throwing up the liquids? this can happen right after surgery if you drink to fast. That is the reason for having to sip, sip, sip.... Your stomach can be very swollen after surgery. Be sure to get your Protein drinks in, they help with the hunger.

This is a great site for support or just venting if you need that...

Well, I was supposed to be on liquids for a week then the mushy foods for 2 weeks. The idiot I am, I was feeling good and decided I could handle regular food. Boy, was I wrong. I find I am still fighting head hunger, can someone tell me how long that lasts? or better yet, what you did to fight it???????

Hi John. Looks like you are doing quite well overall and you have a great weight loss for the first month.

I am scheduled with Dr. Curry for surgery on 3/6/2006. I was mentally prepared until just recently I have been bombarded with nay sayers. I am having to pay for the surgery out of pocket and I really need this to be a good decision, but everyone is scaring the bejesus out of me.

How was your experience with Dr. Curry? Any advice? Do you go to the support meetings?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
