Hello everyone,

I am a newly banded patient as of 12/31/2011. Yes, Happy New Year to me!!! I have struggled with my weight since I was a junior in high school. After many years of battling my weight, and dealing with issues such as gallstones, high blood pressure and a hiatal hernia, I finally decided enough was enough. I watched two friends go through banding in the past year, and took note of their experience so that I may have a more educated experience. I felt that this surgery was right for me from the very beginning, but had a hard time rationalizing the enormous cost of the surgery. At first my insurance said they would not cover, but then after extensive research and phone calls I found out it would most likely be covered. I am no on day four of post-op and let me tell you, I can not wait to be a healthier skinnier person. I chose Dr. Helmuth Billy out of Ventura , and have been extremely happy with my choice. Good luck to you all on this journey!!!!

And good luck to you! You will do fine, you have a good positive attitude welcoming, and looking forward to change, not trying to hold on to the past.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
