Anyone Suffer From Acid Reflux?????

Recommended Posts

Hello All

I've suffered from GERD (acid reflux) for the past five years. I'll be having a panendoscopy next week to see if the lining of my esophagus has been damaged and this will determine if I am a candidate for the lap band. It has gotten a lot better over the years but my doctor wants to be sure all is well. Has anyone had this procedure done? Also, for anyone that has dealt with acid reflux, have you noticed an increase/decrease in reflux issues since being banded???

I have never had the endoscopy but I have had GERD on and off for years. Yes, getting a fill with greater restriction has made it worse but at this point it is well-controlled by Protonix. Also I dont eat after about 6pm or I will wake up with it.

A lot of people get a fill, have reflux, and get unfilled and then are disappointed by not losing enough weight. I have chosen to control it with meds and press on and now I am happily in maintenance! But if I miss even one day of that Protonix..I get it bad!

I had acid reflux for many years. when I had my band surgery they repaired a hiatal hernia that was the cause. I have no problems now - none. stopped taking all meds to lessen the problem.

many of us have a hiatal hernia.

I just had one done this past Wednesday. I have had reflux for years. Showed I might have Barrett's Esophagus which is abnormal cells in the esophagus which could lead to cancer if not treated or watched carefully. This means I probably cannot have the band. Waiting for some biopsies to come back this week. Was hoping to get banded because my insurance will not pay for sleeve. RNY seems a little too drastic for me. Good Luck.

I have my fingers crossed and will pray for us both. The sleeve is another option but I'm trying to wrap my head around having 85% of my stomach cut off with no turning back....... I agree with you, gastric is way too drastic for me and not an option. So now I wait!!!

I had an egd done right before surgery, and it was not painful in anyway. I had a hernia, and that was repaired during my lapband surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
