Hi. So far my experience has been great. I would do this over again in a heartbeat. Before my surgery, I tired everything. I gave up sodas and started to eat healthier, and I gained weight. This was the best decision I have ever made. The hardest part is learning what you can and cannot eat. After each adjustment, there are new thing I cannot eat. I am currently at 11cc's and have a few things I really enjoy eating. I love salad, so I do eat it a lot. My doctor said to stay away from creamy dressings, but I cant give them up.

I am a truck driver, so finding foods to eat on the road is difficult. I do not get very much exercise, but whenever I am home I hit the gym as much as possible.

The best tip I was given, was before you eat, tear a little piece off and put it in Water. If it expands, don't eat it.

Best of luck to you! it will change your life for the better!

Hi...

I also just friended you. I am scheduled to be banded in 3 day. ( Wed ) I am on my liquid diet, and have been getting tired of those shakes and getting pretty hungry. Getting this close to surgery I have thoughts racing through my head about if I am doing the right thing or not. Like do I really want to do this to myself? So, its glad to hear words of encouragement. I have tried all different diets, too. With not much luck. I asked my surgeon this past week if he honestly thinks it works, and he said look at it this way " Insurance companies will do anything to try and get out of paying for anything. So if it didnt work, insurance companies wouldnt even consider it. " Like shap said any tips or experiences you have had would be so helpful.. Thanks

Eric

Dannorex, your 2 pixs tell your story! Congrats. You look great. I also needed to hear what you said about this being the best thing you have done for yourself. My day is coming. Meet with surgeon Jan 12 and surgerynwill be scheduled for late February. I know I will have doubts, but I have researched this for over a year now and have decided to do it. I love salads too and thought that was a no-no as it could get stuck. Have you had any problems getting stuck? If so, with what foods? Thank you.

Eric, I had the same thoughts going thru my head for a week before my surgery. I think its just the surgery part that makes everyone feel a little uneasy..

And to GLove, as with everything, you have to chew your food very well. I eat salad in very small bites, and chew until very mushy. I have had food get stuck. When that happens, I instantly go for a quick walk. I try my hardest to not throw up. Most of the time the walk helps. I can no longer eat bread ( it gets stuck every time)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
