Pre And Post Lap Band Surgery Diet Questions

Recommended Posts

I am expecting my lapband surgery sometime in March. I have so many questions...of course. But I'm most worried about the 2 week liquid diet I will be expected to follow. Did ya'll have the same diet? Was it awful? What types of things did you drink? Also, has anybodies doctor said anything about consuming alcohol after surgery?

Thanks for any info you can give.

Hi! I was just banded a little over a week ago and I've been blogging about it, check it out the link is in my signature. I found so many great stories from blogs and really found a lot of inspiration before surgery from others, so I wanted to pay it forward.

Feel free to message me I can tell you what My husband and I have done and what has worked and not worked for us!!

Best of Luck! I'm so happy with my experience so far :)

I am on day 8 of a 9 day liquid diet. I do not find myself hungry. I expected it to be horrible. The shakes are filling and not bad tasting. You can do it and believe me it really wasn't bad.

Thanks to both of you for your help. MDLAPBAND: I've been reading over you blog...thanks for the recipes you included!!!

CCSBULLDOG: I can assume the first couple of days were the hardest.

Thanks again!

The first couple of days of the pre-op diet were horrible for me. I had headaches, moodiness, cramping hunger pains, couldn't sleep, etc. However by the night of around the 3rd day, my body was over the "withdrawal", and stopped expecting such large volumes of food. I'm glad I did the pre-op diet and stuck to it, because then my body didn't go into that withdrawal shock while also trying to recover from surgery!

I agree with Cake girl. The first three days of the pre-op liquid diet will make you second guess your decision, but hang tight. It will get better. I too had awful headaches, even threw up on the night of day 3. After that though it got better. Its just like withdrawals from alcohol or drugs I suppose, But you will live through it, I promise. After day 3 it became much easier.

I guess I was very lucky. I had no headaches or any other "withdrawal" symptoms. The only day I was hungry was Christmas Eve and I think it had to do with what I cooked for my family. I have my surgery tomorrow and just with the liquid diet I'm already down 8 pounds.

Thanks ya'll. I have serious doubts if I can complete 2 weeks of a liquid diet. I mean, self control is not my strong suit. That's how I got in this position in the first place. I am so afraid of it. I really appreciate your encouraging me.

For those who have done the liquid diet pre-op....

Were you able to eat as much of the liquids as you wanted? I heard someone saying that she strained out the chunky stuff from regular Soups (like clam chowder). Did any of you try anything like that?

Thanks for the info.

Cynthia

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
