No Restriction After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

excuse the poor punctuations skills i was never quite the good english student..lol

well i've been banded since Oct 28th.. i lost 10lbs pre-op.. and post op only 5 I was supposed to go in for my first fill on the 23rd of Nov but my doc was sick so i had to wait until the 1st of Dec. and i already knew i was gonna weigh in a little more so yeah i gained 3lbs.. not good.. but if i can honestly say i had restriction only up until 5 days after surgery.. I've been able to eat whatever but i knew i cldnt just jump into it like that a mess everything up so in moderation.. i ate... whatever.. my addiction is food even now with my first fill i've been able to eat i felt discomfort one time when i swallowed a piece of hot dog so i know i won't try hot dogs again it doesn't feel good.. but my point is i haven't felt full i'm always still hungry i catch myself thinking about eating i know its not good i hate it but i can't help it... when i think about eating only half a cup three times a day and that's it i'm so far from that i should be at the point where food doesn't even cross my mind .. the day i left his office i told him i didn't feel any restriction so i thought he left my band empty after the surgery.. but he said no it had already 3cc's and with what he put the other day i have now over 5 what is wrong with me?? i have a large band has anyone ever gone through this.. i feel like i screwed this one up too... :(((

You haven't screwed anything up yet so don't be so harsh on yourself. Or to put it another way - stay strong and committed to reaching your goal. Restriction takes time and a varying amount of fills for everyone. In the meantime, just practice your new banded eating habits, get a little bit of exercise going and you will feel even better. And when you do achieve restriction, you will be well placed to cope with it.

Good luck.

Bands vary in sizes. 5cc may not provide enough restriction for your band. You will continue to get adjustments until you are able to eat small portions, you are not hungry for 4 to 5 hours after a meal and you are losing 1-2 lbs a week. Hang in there you are not alone.

this is harder than i thought... i can eat anything and i mean anything... but i try to control it but i get to the point where my stomach is growling at me and i feel the vibrations in my throat... sounds odd but true... i don't know what to do at that time because i know i shouldn't feel hungry but i feel like its worse than before because i feel like i haven't eatin in days which is not true at all i think my body knows again what i'm trying to do its protesting... lol.. [i'm lost and i'm gaining quickly]

You are in bandster hell until you get the right amount of fill. My doc says if your band is half full or less (5cc in a 10cc band) you just dont have the band doing anything for you...dont blame yourself!!! This is the hardest time but once you get to a good fill level, you will be sailing. You can see my ticker thingy shows what my fill is that gives me good restriction...I think its 7.something in a 10cc band.

thanks.. somewhat reassuring.. hey i like your slogan i want it to be the same for me.. slow but steady progression no diet... i would like to know why is it that when you don't eat something right you can feel it in your tubing... when the entrance has always been the same size its your pouch that isn't that is way uncomfortable... i feel like i wanna pass out lol... i really don't know what size my band is i would need to go through my paperwork i just don't know how to go through the process without gaining weight did you ever have a time where you went up..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
