Kyleigh, the good news about erosion is that it's a slow process. The stomach is healing itself as fast as the band is eroding through it, so it's not very likely there will be a hole through which gastric contents can leak out. That is, of course, a concern, but erosion is not an emergency situation that has to be dealt with immediately (I'm told by mu surgeon).

I told the nurse practitioner that I am afraid I have esophagitis or an ulcer. The "E" word was there in the air, but I didn't say it. My symptoms are, essentially, a feeling that my esophagus is inflamed and I'm having nightly reflux that is robbing me of sleep. So everything feels worse because of the lack of sleep. There have also been infrequent dull aches in the middle of my chest, but that could be attributed to my allergies which were given a good workout recently. I had a LOT of congestion over the week just past.

In any event, to diagnose esophagitis and/or erosion an endoscopy is necessary. It didn't take much for the nurse to tell me to go for it.

I. :) I'm nervous, I'll admit it. I hate mood-altering buzzy drugs, and of course I'm very nervous about the possible outcome. Now I just have to manage my stress over the next few days until I know more.

Good luck to you Alex!! I'll be hoping your results are all good..

Alex, I just saw this post.

Results?!?!?!?!

Don't keep us hanging!! Hopefully it is nothing that can't be fixed with a little GERD meds...

Thanks so much for remembering and asking about it! Actually, I wasn't able to schedule it for today; evidently this is a bigger deal than I thought and it can't happen until the 13th. So I'm plugging along, trying to manage my symptoms and will find out what's up at that point. I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist on Tuesday evening and I hope he'll be able to shed a little light on what's going on with me.

I'll post more when I have a clue, don't worry. Thanks so much for thinking of me!

Hey Alex,

I am going in for my first endoscopy on the 22nd of this month so I have all my fingers crossed for both of us!!! I have kind of a mild consistent sore throat but never any kind of reflux. Really I have had a very mellow band experience over all but based all of the other Lopez erosions, I too have my own worries. I'll post the results when I get mine and can't wait to hear how yours goes. Best wishes, Teresa

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
