Never Ending Menstrual Cycle Since Surgery

Recommended Posts

At my heaviest weight I was 317. I stopped having periods because of my size. Well 2 weeks before surgery, my period returned. I have basically been bleeding ever since surgery. It has been over 2 months now. I have been to the doc 3 times. They have started me on different hormones to no avail. Has anyone else had a similar experience? When will it stop??whatchutalkingabout_smile.gif

How old are you? Are you close to menopausal age? Periods often get longer and heavier as we get older due to changing hormones and it probably has nothing to do with the surgery. I had a hysterectomy earlier this year as my periods were also getting out of control. In the months leading up to surgery I had mine for approx 61 out of 78 days. Plus it was heavy as well.

If you're past child-bearing, ask your ob about endometrial ablation! It has truly been a miracle for me! It didn't completely stop my peroids, but they are so light now they may as well be non-existent (I'm talking one day/sometimes I joke that it's just 20 minutes!). I didn't want or need a hysterectomy, mainly because I didn't want to have to deal with the hormonal issues. Ablation acheived almost the same results with none of the hormonal and/or recovery aspects. It was done in my doctor's office and I was back at work the next day feeling fine.

I had mine for almost 3 months post surgery. I had to go on BC to help regulate it. I did the mini pill because it has way less estrogen. As you lose weight, the fat breaks down and it produces extra estrogen. Some women have problems with bleeding do to too much estrogen. BC cleared it up for me for the most part. Once your body hits its own pre determined weight it likes, it will be like magic and should regulate its self. But quick weight loss is a very high estrogen process. Just see your regular primary Dr or a GYN.

@krystallynn This same exact thing happened to me. Two weeks before surgery i had a period for the first time in three years and after the first one i just conitued to bleed constantly. I started on a birth control pill and after about a week of taking it i stopped bleeding and started having monthly periods!...Talk with your doctor about some form of BC it will help!

I started with the neverending cycle after the birth of my second son (and I suspect that for me, it was much more a function of age - I'm many years post-op from the band). It lasted something like 41 days straight and was ridiculously heavy. Even BC didn't help get things back on track, so I had the Novasure procedure done (endometrial ablation). Best thing ever. Since then I've only had a few days of spotting now and then around that time of the month. It's only an option if you're done having kids, but I was, and it was an excellent choice for me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
