When do you KNOW to unfill?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill on Feb. 5th. I scheduled the fill because I thought I was eating too much. Little did I know I was still losing weight and had lost 4lbs that week. (I only weigh myself at the gym and the Dr's office. I hadn't been to the gym cuz I was sick). I told the Dr to go easy. I don't know how much he filled.

So, I'm really struggling with eating. I can eat, but not much and have had 2 very bad PB's resulting in vomiting after 45 minutes. I am finding one food after another that doesn't go well and was wondering if I should unfill or just wait. I am eating enough that I'm not worried about not eating. I'm losing weight too, another 4lbs this week. I'm just not sure if I should give it a few more days or unfill a little.

I realize that this is a pretty good result considering that I've had the band for 2 months and am only now having these issues.

Another question....do those bad PB sessions cause swelling? It seems to but I'm not sure.

Thanks for your help!

Yes mam'm, PBs cause swelling. You don't need to get a fill if you are consistantly losing weight.

Being over filled is worse than not being tight enough. Being over filled can cause damage to your stomach, as well as making you miserable.

If you are PBing more then once a week you need a slight unfill..also if you PB you need to do liquids for atleast 24 hours or it causes a vicious cycle, you swell after a PB which could be why if you are eating agin you PB again...if you can not eat solids without PBing you are too tight in my opinion, if you are only eating soft foods and liquids to avoid a PB then you are to tight in my opinion..

If you are still losing weight, there is no need for a fill here is a great site about fills

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
