Had Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

On Surgery date I was 224 lbs and I had surgery on September 23, 2011 and I have lost 19 lbs already, it has been a tough journey but I am making it. I need to exercise more but I just don't have the time, with work and school I have hardly enough time for myself. I walk 18 blocks every morning, and I walk my dog twice a day, but I really need to go to a gym, I just have to find the time.

glad to hear you are walking. keep that going! try to walk fast for part of the time. usually it is recommended to sweat some! when you get more time, start doing more, don't worry about it now.

sounds like you are losing weight so you must be doing well with your eating, good for you. this is a day by day lifestyle change that will be the best one we have ever made.

glad you have joined the "group" there's a lot of information here!!

If you go to Walmart and buy a couple of weights you can handle, with your walking, you'll have almost everything

a gym can offer, and save $600 a year (maybe throw in an extra dollar for a jump rope).

Get the FitBit. I am really excited to try it out. It will be my Christmas gift to myself. It will tell you how many steps you take and what you burn. You can upload it to your computer and it will give you charts of your activity and you can track what you eat so you know you are burning more than what you are taking in. Look it up check it out ...it will be cheaper than the gym but you must keep moving.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
