Constipation

Recommended Posts

thanks

This might not be great medical advice but I got it from a fellow bander and I like it. I eat at least a couple of those no sugar (fake sugar I guess) Russell Stover chocolates every day and they keep things moving. I eat SOOOO much less food these days I still dont go very often but those fake sugars are 'natural' laxatives...

If you are severely constipated (impacted stool, painful, blocked up, unable to pass a stool, glycerin supositories don't solve the problem, feel you need to go but can't) then you need to see your doctor. This can be a serious condition if you let it go on for too long. This happened to me (and is related to the drastic change in your diet and the lack of fibre in the new diet), but your doctor can sort it out.

If you are not at that stage, but are just not regular. Then, I found that a teaspoon of Benefibre in a glass of Water, twice a day, has kept me regular as clockwork. Benefibre is colorless, has no taste, no odour and does not change the thickness of water...so it is just like drinking a glass of water. You can add Benefibre to any liquid that you are drinking and even the Protein Shakes. Good luck and I hope you sort this out.

It takes a couple days...I took one capful, or whatever the directions said. It's not something that you take once and it works right away, you need to take it for awhile. Once I realized I was getting little to no Fiber on my post op diet I decided to keep taking it until I could increase my fiber intake.

The elderly are notorious for having Constipation problems. I've worked in geriatrics for years and have done this many times with my patients. I've seen it work in as little as 30 minutes. The Water is the key. It won't work without it. Diabetic candy is also a good idea!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
