My Band slipped

Recommended Posts

Okay so last Wednesday (10/26) i came down with a really bad stomach flu and after i got over it on Monday (10/31), I still could not eat or keep anything down. I finally got in to the office on this Saturday morning (11/5) only to find out that my band slipped from my flu, my surgeon was not their it was just a nurse practitioner. My stomach is really swollen, and what she said happened was that it tried to pull through the band from the vomiting. She removed everything from my band, so it is wide open hoping that the swelling will go down and let my stomach go back to normal position, and set me up for an appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday (11/16). However she was unclear about what type of diet i should be on. My father that went with me thought that i needed to be on a liquid diet till i went back next Wednesday, but i don't remember her saying that. Has anyone ever been through this?

I just had slippage. I had surgery 4 days after my appointment, so I was on liquids until surgery. Good luck, I really don't have a good answer, but call your surgeon's office for your answer. They may want you to wait for a few days, and then eat normally, but you can't be sure unless you talk to them! Karen

Yes, I have a date for revision surgery because my band slipped. It was caused by vomiting too. I have IBS and got sick while traveling and the band took the brunt of it. I have nothing left in my band as I have had so many defills to relieve the symptoms. I have acid reflux and vomiting. I also choke and it feels like there is some obstruction in my throat and it cuts off my air so I struggle to breathe with it. The surgeon says I must have a hiatus hernia and the band is coming up through that into the esphogus. I am praying my band is fixable. I originally lost 85 lbs but have yo yoed a bit now because of the slippage. I stay at about 70 lbs lost which is still a lot more than I could do on any other weight loss program.

i am so sorry for all of you and i hope that your situation gets fixed and without any troubles in the future. my question is did your surgeon suture the band to your stomach on your originally surgery? my surgeon says he does that so the band will not slip. wondering if it still can slip even after suturing it in place. thank you and good luck.

How did the NP know for sure it slipped and wasnt just really irritated/inflamed? This would not be diagnosed by just her doing a history and physical. Did you have an EGD, a barium swallow, or a CT scan?

I dont mean to be rude but the DOCTOR needs to diagnose you. In any case, liquids and maybe mushies are probably right and an unfill seems reasonable too.

Did you know that we or our insurances get charged the same whether we see a real doctor or not? Might be good to ask to see a doctor.

Well good luck to you...I am keeping my fingers crossed that it wasnt a true slip requiring a second surgery. Was your band stitched into place or do you know if it was? Mine was and my doc says he hasnt had a slip yet.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
