Left Arm And Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

I WAS BANDED ON 7/11/11 ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO I STARTED HAVING SHARP PAINS IN MY SHOULDER,MAYBE ABOUT 3 TIMES A WEEK. WELL, LAST NIGHT THE PAIN WENT FROM MY SHOULDER TO MY ARM ALL THE WAY DOWN TO MY FINGERS...THIS LASTED FOR 2 HOURS. IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?

if its left side, i think its expected and walking is the main cure. but seems youre walking already. but i am just banded and barely had the left shoulder pain yet, started getting it yesterday.

good luck with it. hope it fades quick.

It's from pressure on your phrenic nerve. Mine was pretty bad for many months and even became my "full signal".

The pressure eased up after I dropped about 45 pounds.

I still have that pain everytime I eat a meal, drink a whole protien shake, or 2 large cups of coffe at a time. There is a nerve there from what I have been told when the pouch thinks it has has a meal it presses on a nerve that causes pain. That is what my surgeon told me. I have had it for about 2 years I just accepted as part of the Band.

Talk to your doctor it could be something else but maybe not!

OMG...this pain is no joke. I was banded 11-22, and have been having this pain almost daily. Walking does not help me!!! One day it lasted for 10 hrs and it was no fun. I go see my doctor on Friday and this is on the top of my questions list. Any suggestion or strategies to allieviate or prevent it? Please help!!!

I think most people get better relief from hot packs applied to the shoulder.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
