Don't be disgusted with yourself! Just get back to the basics of the way to eat. I just had my first fill and only notice a little difference so I know I can eat more than I should but if you want this to work you have to stay strong until you get to the right fill level. Did the dr. give you a fill since he doesn't think the band was tight enough? The other night I know I could have eaten more than I should have so I had to put the food down and go get in the bath to just not focus on the food I wanted to put in my mouth but knew I didn't need to put in my mouth. I was just telling my nutritionist how much of a head game this all is. You have to retrain your brain to not want food but only when you need it. Just start over and take one day at a time. Good luck!

Don't be disgusted with yourself, we all go through this. If you find you are eating more, then yes, I'd say you need a fill. It happens to me too, I have good restriction for a while, then I'll be able to eat more and gain a few (which is where I am right now) then I get a fill and start to lose again. It's what our bands are there for, if we could do it ourselves without any restriction we wouldn't have gotten it in the first place. Don't beat yourself up, get your fill and just keep going. You haven't been banded very long, it sometimes takes a while to find good restriction, be patient, and keep seeing your doctor for fills as needed. I know for me I need a fill every 2months, if not I'll be able to eat anything and everything, I constantly need to be on top of my adjustments. Good luck!

I got my first adjustment last week. I go for another in 3 weeks. I don't feel the first fill did anything so I am anxious to see what the 2nd will do. You say you get adjusted every 2 months. Can the adjustments stretch?

I think your pouch can stretch over time from over stuffing yourself, but I don't think I'm stretching, I try to be very careful about that. My doc says that as you lose fat around your stomach the band can become loose. There were a few months where I lost nothing, (a combination of being lazy and not wanting to pay for my fills) and my restriciton felt the same (it was minimal at the time), as soon as I started losing again, after a few weeks I felt I needed a fill. I think I'm just losing stomach fat, I've probably lost about 14lbs since the begining of Sept (which was my last fill) these past 2 weeks I've been able to eat alot more so I'm needing another fill. I believe that once the majority of the fat around my stomach is gone, my restriction wlll last longer between fills and I may actually get to the point where I may be in my "green zone" and won't need fills anymore or as often. This happens for some of us, I think it's because some people tend to have more abdominal fat, which is where all of my fat is, so I have more fat wrapped around my organs than say a person that is more bottom heavy. I hope that made sense, I'm kinda tired lol

Everyone is different, I felt a little restriction right after surgery then as some weight came off I felt none, got a fill, lost some weight and the cycle started all over. This is just how it's been working for me. Some people need a few fills before they feel anything, and some feel it right out of the gate and never need a fill, and others need them every now and then. I think getting filled slowly and adjusting to it at a gradual pace will make people more successful at this and reduce the risk of throwing up/getting stuck. The gradualness (if thats a word lol) makes it easier to get used to and gives us time in between fills to practice eating slower, chewing slower ect. I hope this was clear.. I'm starting to doze off at my computer..

I am on fill #4 and I have little restriction. The only time I feel anything is when I eat sandwiches (bread) and when I eat things like pretzels. I started out really good, working out, counting calories, and watching Portion Control and I figured I'd be at a better place by now and I'm not. The discouragement of not having more restriction has caused me to go back to old habits, and eating too much of the wrong thing. So far my MD is only adding .5 cc each visit. It may be 2012 before I actually get some restriction, but I am back on track as of today. I have my gym clothes laying on the bed and I'm hitting the treadmill today. I've paid too much money to go back to the old me. Don't feel like you're alone because we all go through it. Just start a new day and vow to do better. I rooting for you!

Stay positive and remember this is a process, the weight won't fall off overnight and it will take time. I've been banded for a year now and steadily loss .5 to 1 lb a week. As long as you stay focused, measure, eat the right amount of Protein and walk you will do fine. I recently measured 3.4 c food per meal and ate more often, this helped a lot and prevented me from over eating. Check out my blog, I recently started it and am posting tips.

Your band is a tool and only your doctor can make it tighter or looser for you. I hope he made it tighter as he said it wasn't tight enough! On the other hand, your eating and exercising are totally up to you. I wasn't really aware of just how much effort I would have to put into this side of losing weight with the band ahead of time but I have certainly learned! I was banded in April and have lost 48kg (about 108lb).

I log my food and exercise diligently with myfitnesspal.com I plan my daily meals in advance as much as possible so that by the time I sit down to eat, I have already decided what I will eat and how much. It's that old head game. If I want to eat more, then I need to earn calories through extra exercise.

Once you achieve restriction, you will find it much easier to control your portion size, but you (I) still need to make healthy food choices.

Good luck.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
